Well I would love to comment on adding shrubs, But I design landscapes in New Mexico. I don't even know what zone Canada is but I am sure not many of the desert shrubs that we use would do good there.
Use some Indian hawthorn or Nandinas. I would try to stick with a lot of evergreen shrubs. Enjoy that pool.. Summer is about gone..
I would imagine a large fountain would cost hundreds in freight to get to Canada.
