Yesterday, right before we left for our bike ride, my big shepherd mix dog, Buster, was whining to go back outside in the backyard. So, like a a dummy, I let him out. My scooter was in the backyard by the back door, covered, so I couldn't see anything but I did hear him doing "the dog shake", you know, when a dog has something in it's mouth and shakes it as if it's trying to kill it. Within seconds, I could smell "skunk". I swore and shut the door. I went upstairs and looked outside with the flashlight. There he is, rubbing his face on the grass, and a dead baby skunk laying on the ground. Since we were literally leaving at that moment, he was going to have to stay outside until we got back home. After we got home, Earthdog disposed of the body and we smelled the dog. He barely smelled like skunk. Again, he somehow did not get "skunked" again! This is like the 3rd or 4th young skunk that he's gotten in our backyard without getting sprayed! Unfortunately, I think my scooter cover got it. I found a recipe of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and Dawn to clean your dog after it gets sprayed (they claim it's better than tomato juice), but I wonder what will work on a motorcycle cover?

THe peroxide may bleach out the cover (depending on the material)- Just be thankful the spray did not get on Earths Harley- probably would have been the Dog's body that needed cleaning up!

you guys are very, VERY lucky that only the scooter cover got skunked. although Buster might smell worse when wet, and the odor may linger for a while. i'd be on the lookout for one mean momma skunk in the future.

I wish the wild critters would figure it out that our backyard is not safe for them! Bunnies, skunks, opossums and groundhogs aka woodchucks (not to mention squirrels) have all made it into our middle of the city backyard. They're probably safer crossing the street then coming into our backyard!

I think he is keeping score! LOL! I don't know if I'd call him a bad ass or not. I know he definitely doesn't like squirrels (all I have to say is "go get the squirrel" and he runs barking, even before he sees one or not). He helps me keep them and the birds out of the vegie garden! And when a vehicle goes through the alley, he runs and barks at them. I think he'd kick someone's butt, if needed! When I first adopted him, he definitely did not like men. He loves Earthdog now. My brother is still afraid of him because he "pinched" him pretty good when I first brought him home. Earthdog showed him who's the "top dog" and now he's his buddy.
Now, the newest Jack Russell Terrier (female) has no fear whatsoever! She does NOT like anything with an engine (or at least a "loud" engine). As soon as the vacuum cleaner, lawn mower, weed eater and Harley Davidson start, watch out! She will bark the whole time it's on! We bought a fancy $300.00 vacuum cleaner and the first time we used it, she "attacked" it and scratched it up! We have to lock her up when we need to use it!
Now our other female JRT is a scaredy cat! If you drop a piece of paper, she'll run!

You better not talk about lacy that way. She is not a scaredy cat, she is cautious...
