The National Weather Service has now posted info about Tropical Depression #5 which is heading for Texas and northern Mexico. Just wanted to let any of you in its path know you are being thought of and kept in our prayers.
Bob and I experienced first hand the wrath of Charley, followed way too soon by Frances and then Jeanne just three short years ago. I don't wish those experiences on anyone.
Be safe over there, dear Texas friends, okay? And we'll keep an eye out for Dean over here in Florida.
Lady B
*********
Amended message--Noon, ET, 8/15/07: TD #5 has now been "upgraded" to Tropical Storm Erin and is likely to bring up to 8 inches of rain to areas that are already saturated from above-average rainfalls this summer.

Thanks LadyB. It's been so hot here for the last couple of weeks that I'm actually glad to see the storm coming. Maybe it will cool things down a bit. As long as she doesn't strengthen, Erin will be welcome here. Dan

Hey Dan, see if you can push some of that rain my way too (don't we all wish it was that easy). You guys take care down there, don't try to be too brave if it gets bad.

Thanks Kate and everybody else. We don't need any more rain here. We are truely saturated here. We just got rid of all the mosquitoes too.
It will be nice if it cools it off though. I'm ready for some cooler weather.

Just checking up on all you Texans. The weather reports look like some parts of the Lone Star got inundated and others barely a sprinkle. (I know it's a huge state so it's not all that hard to have wide variations in weather.) Just hoping that all of you are not having to mop up or float boats after Erin's visit. Looks like Dean is going to ignore Florida (we hope and pray) but might visit Texas. Oh dear!

Boy, we sure got rain and wind here! It was wierd!! No flooding, it would rain real heavy and then the sun would come out for a bit..........then heavy rain again. The pattern lasted all day. I guess some needed rain although the mosquitoes are so big when I swat at them, they hit me back!! LOL

If it get's really bad all you rock lovers can move a little up North. I'm happy to say here in Iowa we really don't have bad weather problems like those on the coasts. I don't think I would like to live through a hurricane. Even the winter weather here in Iowa is getting milder and less snow than years gone by. I don't know if it's from global warming or not. It's just a good middle of the road place to be. Just sitting here protected from a lot of the bad weather out there. We are expecting rain for the next week each day, so I don't think I will be ouside much. Oh well, so it goes. Take care down there!

Lady B it sounds like Dean could yet make an appearance - hopefully he'll be a shadow of his former self by that time though!

Cher How is the weather there? Are you expecting rain for the next several days too? I wish we were Debs, yesterday they raised the danger level and completely banned all campfires. We lost a lot of trees last year because of the drought and it's going to be worse next year. Looks like you got nailed in the early hours this morning though.

Our local weather guys are saying it will stay South after hitting the Yucatan Penninsula. Brownsville, Tx. may have to evacuate but Mexico will probably get the worst of it when it finally reaches the Gulf Coast. Hopefully it will be considerably weaker when it does hit. I'm keeping a close on this one Dan

As of this morning, it looks like Dean will avoid the US entirely. But Erin is still wreaking havoc. The photos/news coverage are pretty amazing considering she was never more than a tropical storm and for most of her over-land travels, she's been a depression. Nature, at her best and worst, never ceases to fill me with awe and to demand my respect.
Forecasters keep saying more bad storms are coming this season. Sure hope the experts are wrong.
I guess now we can shift our thoughts and prayers to all who have been or will be in Dean's path.
