Sorry, all. Here is the story. Perhaps some of you followed it through the Rocky Mtn. News back when it was first published. I was only recently made aware of the story, and the local ties to my community. My hesitation was simply because, after reading the amazing 33-chapter saga, one of the parties still living is a 'rock hound' who slabs and cabs. If that person used RTH as a place to find peace and solace, I did not want to bring it up here. It really is 'old news', but the story did affect me deeply. I thought that some members would also find it interesting and moving. Sorry for the obscurity; I honestly think it is a series worth reading, and, as I said, I was deeply moved by it. I also did not want to cause any more problems to any possible members. Thanks for all your PMs; I did take them all into consideration. I give you this link, and you can choose to read it or not. cfapp2.rockymountainnews.com/crossing/

I hope he isn't a member here and didn't want to rehash the past.

This story affected me deeply--when it first became news some 45 years ago and now reading about it all these many years later. The tragedy related in this report had a profound impact on school-children all over the US. Safety inspections at RR Crossings were stepped up. School Bus drivers were better trained. And drivers of other vehicles have become much more aware of the big yellow boxes that now MUST stop at all RR tracks even if there is no train in sight or hearing distance.
I don't think this review of the tragedy is intended to bring pain to any of the RTH members. Should the young man who was driving the bus that very sad day now be an older, more experienced man and a member of RTH, who among us would reject him? Who among us would ask him to leave RTH? Who among us will not be praying, "There but for the Grace of God and a quirk in time, go I?"
We don't throw rocks at each other here. We share them in wonderfully overstuffed FRBs.
Thank you , Karen, for bringing this story to our attention. Perhaps it will help ease our impatience the next time we find ourselves "stuck" behind a school bus that is carrying our greatest American commodity--our children; our future.

If he's here, I want to send him some rocks and my unconditional rock-hound fellowship. EDog, that's why I asked first, then waited. It is still understandably a sensitive issue to many people, but I think it is a story worth reading. For many reasons.

What can one say after reading that story? My heart goes out to the families and especially to the bus driver. What a terriable burden to have to carry through the years. I am glad that the story has helped some people in their healing process.
