Hi all -
Popped in for a quick announcement. I will be driving from Central Pennsylvania to Corvallis, OR during the last 10 days of October. I plan to mostly go along I-80.
I would love to visit some of my RTH friends who don't live too far off my route. I won't have rock to swap because I am putting that into the moving van. Still, always interested in seeing other's rockpiles and shops.
Best to email me at deb193 @ psu. edu (remove the spaces). I will be reading email up to the 19th of October.
-Daniel

Daniel, If you hang w/I-80 thru Nebraska, I am 50 miles south of Ogallala. Would love to meet you for lunch/supper in Ogallala. Also, you really need to visit the little pet wood museum there. Here is the link: www.petrifiedwoodgallery.com/ You do need to call ahead; the brothers are older, and the tourist season is passing. If you call them, and ask for a tour, they will meet you there, show you around, etc. I've only met Harvey, and he was very fun and helpful. They also have some great pet wood outside of the shop. Ask them about it, specifically the lock box. Make sure you tell them that you are a rock hound, and know how to handle a saw. Harvey didn't open the lock box for me, until he watched me sort thru his other stuff. Then, he asked what I was going to do with the rocks. I told him I was going to cut them up on my little slab saw. He told me to look for pieces with the least amount of fractures, and I said, Yes, but I am also looking for larger, more colorful pieces that I could send on and have slabbed. After a few more questions, he started suggesting rocks. (least amount of fractures, most interesting, etc.) We were there at least a half hour after he closed; I had teenaged boys who wanted to LEAVE, MOM! I plan to go back as soon as I have a free weekend! Please give me a call! I emailed you, I hope. My email is being pretty weird tonight. Karen

Ok, Got to Oregon last night. Made two rock related stops and one RTH face-2-face visit with Joe. ABout 60# of rock seem to have fallen into my van along the way.

Glad you made it OK! It was really great meeting you and the cat!! (Daniel has a really sleek lookin' cat!) His vehicle was packed full so I don't know how any more rock was crammed in there. No wonder the cat was miffed, you put that rock in her space, didn't ya?! Daniel left me with a nice piece of Horn Coral, which is something I've wanted to try since seeing some of the other RTH cabbers do it. Thanx Daniel!! I've been wondering about that special rock and CP! I'll get it when he's old enough to fly over my house and drop it from his plane!!!
