It seems like yesterday that Christian was a tiny baby in the hospital. At 4-1/2 now, he started pre-school a week ago. I always knew he was a big kid for his age group, but next to the other kids in his class he looks like a giant. He now stands 48" tall and weighs in at almost 60 lbs! I guess it runs on Tonja's side - she has a 17yr. old nephew at 6'-5", and his sister, 15yrs. old at 6'-2", with both being skinny as rails. Christian is a little on the husky side, so everyone is thinking he might play football - ;D ;D ;D! Here are his first day of pre-school pics. Not quite sure about this school thing yet Dad!?! Thanks for looking! Dave

Hey Dave,
At 4 1/2 years of age, he is only 11 inches shorter than I am! Cute photo. That second one looks like he's saying "dad, stop taking pictures of me!"

I had to do the math, too; I like to think I'm 5'2", that's only 14 inches difference, in my best shoes, standing on rocks. Want to know how long it took my son Matt to get there? Of course, he's now taller than I, and has much bigger feet. (Warning you about the feet; you had better start subscribing to a large-foot shoe mag!) Along with the football pads, you'd better make sure that child has a BB hoop; don't rule out baseball, either. Did you know that more scholarships are actually given out for baseball programs, than for football and basketball? I'm talking number of scholarships, not necessarily dollar amounts. Just a thought. You can plan all you want for their future, but ultimately, they decide. Enjoy your years! They go so quickly!

Just thought I would add that he really loves school. He wasn't so sure at first, but after a week he is enjoying himself and doing great. It is funny that you all are doing the height comparrison..... When people see him, they always ask if he is in about the 2nd or 3rd grade of school and are shocked when we tell them his real age. I am 5'-11" and my wife is about 5'-8", but I bet he will pass us up by the time he reaches high school! LOL
Karen - I agree with you about letting him decide what he likes to do. We try not to push anything on him, but encourage him to at least try new things and if he doesn't like it that's okay . As for the sports side - Christian really takes to baseball. He has already tossed the tee aside, and hits almost every ball I pitch to him. It seems like every other one he hits ends up over the fence in the neighbors yard!! Football/basketball/baseball (or anything else) - it doesn't matter to me as long as he has fun and likes to do it.
Hermatite - Drake and Josh is his favorite show too! He still watches some of the 'younger' shows too, but Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, and Transformers are beginning to take over. LOL

He looks like he is posing in the first photo, crossing his leg over the other (to make him look slimmer, you know). LOL! He's cute! Watch out girls!
My most vivid memory is when my oldest daughter took the bus for the first time, that hit me worse than the 1st day of school (when I took her)! Seeing her drive off, waving to me out of the window. Now, that was a tear-jerker!

They do grow up fast. I have pictures of my own son in the exact same circumstance. I remember watching (and photographing) him get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten and waiting that afternoon for him to come home. He stated his second year of college this fall.

Takila - LOL - he was posing in both as usual! I hope he doesn't impress too many girls - he already has more girlfriends now than I think I had my whole life!?! Tonja is glad he doesn't have to take a bus - It about killed her for us to take him and drop him off. It was kinda weird though having the house to ourselves for the first couple of mornings - we felt..... lost. KG - College is just around the corner.....oh no!!

So, Dave, does he still like school? ;D
Mine are all grown up but the memories of seeing them off to school remain fresh in my heart.
This is a very special time. Enjoy every moment of it.

You guys are starting to make me doubt my feelings about him going to school! LOL! I guess it is not as hard on us guys as for the gals. Still it is strange to have those free hours in the morning(I work the afternoon/evening shift) I find myself checking the clock to see if it's time to go pick him up. He really is enjoying it though. He is a miracle 'only child', and the youngest on both sides by about 11 years, so he doesn't really have too many kids to play with around home. I think this is the reason we always tell everyone that he is 4, going on 15, because he is around us grown ups so much that he seems 'older' than he really is. It is nice for him now to be around some other kids his own age for a change. Most of what they are teaching is stuff he already knows, but the atmosphere in the class is what he likes the most. He must be doing good - the teacher has given him Smiley faces every day he's gone! ;D ;D ;D 18-20 more years?? I can do this...........! ;D

My son's the biggest in his preschool class too. Mind you I am 6'4" and my wife is 5'8". Not to boast or anything but, my shoes size is a USA size 16. Ouch! It sucks buying shoes. My 4 year old son tells me the other day that he will have feet bigger than me one day. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! DON'T DO IT! or at least wait until you have your own job and can buy your own shoes.

Here you go.
NEIL YOUNG
"My Boy"
Why are you growin' up so fast My boy? Oh, you'd better take your time. Why are you growin' up so fast My son?
Almost time to live your dream My boy. Oh, you'd better take your time. Almost time to make some plans My son.
Vacation gone, school is out, Summer ends year in year out.
Oh, you'd better take your time My boy. I thought we had just begun. Why are you growin' up so fast My son?
Vacation gone, school is out, Summer ends year in year out.
Why are you growin' up so fast My boy?
Why are you growin' up so fast My son?
And another by Harry Chapin. (Don't do what the father does in this song.)
Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A child arrived just the other day, He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away. And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew, He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad. You know I'm gonna be like you."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then."
My son turned ten just the other day. He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play. Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today, I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok." And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed, Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then."
Well, he came from college just the other day, So much like a man I just had to say, "Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?" He shook his head, and he said with a smile, "What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys. See you later. Can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then."
I've long since retired and my son's moved away. I called him up just the other day. I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time. You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu, But it's sure nice talking to you, dad. It's been sure nice talking to you." And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, He'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me.
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then." Condor

Condor you SUCK- Cat's in the cradle always brings a tear to my eye (yea I'm a freakin whimpy crybaby) Yeah, that song really makes you put things in perspective. I had a female boss once tell me about how sad it was for me not choosing to become a school administrator even though I have all the credentials. She was talking down to me over this. I replied to her about how sad it was that her kid was growing up without her while she was busy watching other kids from other families grow up instead of her own. I suggested she give this song a listen. She makes more money than me, but I, by far, am so much wealthier in the bank of life and children. (other songs by Harry Chapin that I value...... Dancing Boy, and Tangled Up Puppet) Condor

Stick to your priorities Condor and God bless you for doing it. No one will ever be on their death-bed wishing they had spent more time with their work... We only have a small window where we can speak into the lives of our kids and shape who they will become.

Condor - It's kinda funny, but I have been thinking about that song(cat in the cradle) the past week or so. Not just about Christian, but for my dad too. I've had alot of overtime at work the last 3 months and I only get to see my parents about once every 2 weeks or so. It seems there is never enough time to fit everything in no matter how hard you plan or try. They need to make an "EASY" button for this sort of thing!?! LOL
