Has anyone read this book? I just got done reading it knowing that the movie is coming out. Turns out it is only playing in select cities aroung the country. If you like the outdoors, it's one heck of a story about an individual on a mission to Alaska. I do a lot of camping and like to think that I would never be as dumb as this guy. Maybe he was just too smart for his own good. Whatever the case, I give it two agates (or thumbs) up.

Hey Condor I like to listen to audiobooks on my commute to work so I had to check this out and it sounds great. Plus it has some really good reviews. I'm gonna buy it. Thanks, Raquel

I read the book when it first came out, actually awhile back. It's a good book about a crazy guy, it is a great and true story. I guarantee the movie will not be half as good as the book Nona

I'm with slydog, although I am looking forward to the movie, no matter how well its done it won't hold a candle to Krakower's writing.
I highly recommend the book.

I just saw the previews of the movie last night and it looks good. The book so far has been great. I'm almost done with it and its hard to believe that there are so many people that feel the same as he did. I like the outdoors but enjoy the comforts of home too.

I read this book a few years ago. It is a terrific read. Krakauer is a great reporter/writer. He did a masterful job weaving the story of this young man with the story of his own relationship with his father. Have you read any of his others: Into Thin Air and Under the Banner of Heaven?
I'm to the point where I will read anything he writes.

Saw the movie last night, and I have to say, they did a very respectable treatment, the cinematography's is excellent and while it would have been impossible to match the book (in my opinion anyway) the movie is still a very compelling, personal and dramatic presentation of the story.
I'd still say to read the book first, but I'd also tell you to see the movie if you get a chance.
