Takila and I rode the Harley to Byron, Il. to watch drag racing and the National Wheel Standing Contest. What a blast it was. It was sunny and hot outside, about 87 today. What a way to spend a Sunday, with my favorite girl and fast cars. All these cars were running in the 7's and low 8's at about 180+ mph. The orange Gremlin, the owner lives only 3 blocks from my house Watch the last car in the video clip, a Chevy Chevette, please excuse my comment when the chevette tried a wheelie.

Kev, your missing some great wheelies and a Chevette flipping over backwards.

Nothing beats a big block. What a time you had. Wish I had been there.

Doc, come on up next year for it. I used to have a ford 429 cobra jet in an old "75 thunderbird and that thing would burn the tires off the rims for two blocks.

Back in the old days, like I am that old, I stuffed a 566 Ford into a 1972 Pinto. 8/71 blower, Aries Hemi heads, Hildebrand injecion, Hayes magneto with governor, 1600 hp on the dyno on alcohol. Built a birdcage, got it registered, and wrapped it around a tree next to me, leaving my driveway. That Chevette went over backwards, I hit the ladder bars and went sideways, spinning. Had to get cut out with the Jaws of Life. Sold the engine to a miler boat racer. He hit 220 in the running mile. Built a 650hp 503 for the wife's Suburban. She loves it. Once she got used to the power band, she can drive like a granny in style. I dropped from 3:41 to 3:11 posi. Get 25mpg around town, and she will not smoke the tires accelerating. Gets the left front wheel off the ground though. I still have my 388/350 G20 Conversion van, 425hp. She is a runner. Dropped down to 2:73 posi, and moving from Los Angeles to here got 22mpg on the highway with 6 tons onboard. Both are 2" duals with crossover. Gobs of torque. I do love them big blocks. I want to put my 383 in a Jeep based T-Bucket. I cannot find a frame builder who even understands what I am talking about. Think about it. Doors, hardtop when it rains, full roll cage, up front mill, metalflake olive drab. Stylin ride. One day.

Stef, that guy won the contest in 2005 and in 2006 he got it up on one back wheel lost control and rolled 8 times to win the most violent wheelie.

Well, I'm in the newspaper business. I created an ad for a local dealer. He has a 2008 Corvette, Z06, 505 hp., 6-speed, nicely equipped. New! It's only $74,9000. He also has other Corvettes, such as a 1981 Coupe, for only $11,900. Jeez! You go, folks.
