Hi all, I just had to show you what I just received from tonyterner. I was checking out his wood turning website and was amazed at some of his creations, especially the darling little wood mushrooms. We made a deal and here is what I received today: They are all 2"-3" tall and he has signed the bottom of each with his signature, the date, and the type of wood........there is Holly, Firethorn, Japanese Yew, Mountain Laurel, an unknown, Black Birch and White Birch. I just love them, thank you again Tony! Shannon

They are so cute, every mushroom with its own personality! It seems to me amazing that they don't seem to have simmetry, although i suppose they are worked with a sort of lathe

Thats what I love about them.....they look so real. Him and I both commented that they look like something out of Alice in Wonderland.
Which one are you referring to Ed?

Dust? Awww come on.....dust adds to the authenticity lol.
No really, I probably couldnt bear to let them get dusty so it will be me. Jay came home and I said "did you see my mushrooms!!!" He nodded his head and I said "but did you really see them? Did you bond with them like I did???" He just gave me that you are a moron look that Ive come to know over the years. What can I say, I get attached to things.

Ed the spalted one is white birch. You must know something about wood if you know about spalt. The was part of a tree in the parking lot where I work. It died and my boss told me I could take it. I left it standing for about 3 months to get it to spalt. Some of the smaller branches like this did but anything larger didn't. The branches that spalted also got punky, which with white birch means, not a smooth finish. I think the texture is interesting and sets it apart from the other smoothly finished shrooms. Dang, I put way to much thought into this. Adrian, they have symmetry. They are turned on a lathe between 2 points. They are out of round because I leave some of the bark on. So where you see wood it is round, where there's bark it is out of round. Make sense?

Hmmm. I see a portabella, a shaggymane, a prairie mushroom, and I'll have to look the others up, haha! What, no morels? Tony, those are WAY cool! You Rock & Roll (on a lathe)!!! I have some branches from a black walnut tree; want them?

Thanks for the compliment and the offer Karen. Unless the branches are of sentimental value to you I would have to say no thanks. Black walnut is a pretty common tree around here. I live in an area of no rocks, but trees, they are everywhere here.

I LOVE these toadstools--so much so that I have arranged to have Tony make some for me! They will be perfect complements to my Gnome collection!
Tony, your artistry with wood--I visited your website--is just so beautiful. Every piece begs to be lovingly touched and admired!
Thanks for bringing these to our attention, Shannon!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. All of my woodturnings are works of love, at least for me. Its always hard to give them up but they need good homes and mine is getting pretty full. Now if only I could find someone who wants to trade a woodturning or two for 6" diamond wheels in 80 and 220 grit. ;D ;D ;D ;D (I crack myself up!)
