Andy started it, I'm not sure when though. Now he's Mark, and still running it and he's a very nice British bloke to boot.

NMRocks, About two years ago (first posts are around March 2003) now I set up the site at rocktumblinghobby. As although ive collected various samples all my life (and loads of them), I'd never tumbled them, and once I started (i'd watched others do it in the past), I couldnt help writing about it and trying to get people over the hurdles which I encountered. "Whats it supposed to look like at stage 2?" "Can I mix this with that?" I thought a kind of generic document would be ideal on the net. Not perfect but there we go.. Two years later - here we are having a good time and a dabble at the rocks. A brief History of Rocks. The site is not a money making site (it costs at the moment about $10 per month to host - if that, and the odd sale comes in from Edmunds. Reaping me typically about $2.50 per month. Its a hobby site, and I would not have it any other way. In 5 years time, we will be the largest group of rock tumbling/hounding/polishing/jewelry making/ornament making dudes on the net. Cos thats what we do Anyone can set a website up and meet great people. ANYONE. Mark.

I posted an history of the site a while back. I think it is still in archives. It does though seem too well thought out. I have and still suspect Electricals. I was really impressed with the intent, and integrity of the original start up. I saw the history, with its growth and expansion. I am, however, wary of the electricals. They seem to be everywhere. I have been a member of a multitude of forums. Everyone except this one has broken down to YELLING, and Rule Nazi's. This forum really kicks into high gear and reaches out to the newcomer, and others who have questions. Rather than haveing a pecking order, we seem to just reach out. Andy started it, but I think he went through a metamorphisis and revelation, just like Baltar. One day, Andy became Mark. It is better to come out that way, rather than start wearing a dress. It is hard to think of this as Mark's forum. I can just imagine what it must have been like for Harold's wife when he shaved his legs, and came out, blazing. A quick trip to a surgeon, high voice, and he bacame she. I forget how I found the history of the site. I lost the site for a while and found it on search. Actually, I found day one, then day two, etc. It was pretty neat. I felt like I had stumbled on something. I was like a paleobiologist finding an paramicium that had been trapped in amber and just came to life. What I have never figuired out, is how Mark affords the site. It has never asked for monetary contribution and is pretty efficient. Mark has donated an awful lot of his time and sits back. He places few demands on anyone, and reluctantly posts. That is what makes me suspicious. What is the catch? It is that which makes me think the Electricals are at work. I have gotten quite used to making acquaintances on this forum, and query. What happens if Mark gets this as a benny with his employ, and goes directly into wood work? If we free him from the electricals, and he ventures out to free other people, what will happen to this forum? What price thirty pieces of silver?

That's not true, Mark. It takes someone special, with a special gift, and a love of the hobby (money be damned!) A love of all things creative and bigger than them selves, Someone like you ;D

Cookie, do not tell Mark that! He will suddenly see and fight his way out of his nacele and will only be able to travel through telephone jacks. The forum will suddenly disappear and Morpheous will be having a fight with someone at hyper speed, and the electricals will send someone to stick wood sticks in peoples heads and they will have to swim to a beach and bap each other on the head with aluminum cylinders that have some bizarre clothes and turn into eating containers. He is happy where he is. We will keep our secrets and keep the electricals fed with other peoples inner thoughts.

Doc, the site is the site. I figured it out - the electicals are weak, and I watch their little movements - Its smooth - I think I understand the process now. "benny with his employ" What do you mean by that Doc? Not quite certain of the "benny" bit or the "employ" bit - in terms of grammar and meaning that is. I am not an employee, I run my own Public Lim it ed ( ) company. (for what its worth in the uk - actually utter dross due to the UK goverment being such a nasty bunch of assholes) - but then thats the electricals bit - Blair is a tosser. End of story. I have to do accounts (1300 pounds it cost me this year that about 2500 US Dollars). Bugger me. Anyways - I'm a "free spirit" and proud to be that way. And working on being that way moreso. NOBODY TELLS ME WHAT TO DO. They can try, and I will listen and discard or take onboard. But I answer to nobody - and after doing 15 years as a slave to the small ones - I am chuffed to literally "bragg" that I am "out of it" and the dumb smucks are still there trying to manipulate people. A past world mate - still lingers a bit but I have a freedom that most people can only dream of. And I'd die to keep it.

Cookie.
I went to the funeral of a friend this week.
Jessie - bless her soul.
A neighbour for 16 years plus - at 79 she died of bowel cancer.
They did the ops etc. and "dug into her" whats the story there then?
She asked for
a) No Hymn's b) No flowers c) Just sincerity.
Oh my god. What a brave lady to lay down those rules.
Jessie was a dear woman who I'll remember fondly. I hate funerals and ignore everyone who comes over to me and says "Are you OK mark?"
Jessie left a Drink and Cigarette for anyone who wanted that behind the bar at her local pub.
How hard must it have been to write that out to the landlord.
"here - im dying - do this"
Jessie is in a land I dont understand - she had a good life I guess - travelled the world (egypt, far east etc)
I hope she is still "concious" somewhere - but I dont know what happens after death.
Lovely lady.
God rest and keep her soul - PLEASE IF YOU WOULD.

As far as Big Red goes, I had no clue what I was doing. I have a much better understanding now. I also have an abundence of rock and fill to keep her at 15# lbs, so as not too underload. I think I need one more tumbler to keep things rolling at a constant. I also have a birthday coming up, so the new tumbler is in the bag Love and respect, cookie3rocks

Mark don't fret- Jessie had a long and wonderful life- Here is the thing that confusses me- My wifes Secretary at work woke up last sunday morning to find her 22 month old boy DEAD- No reason at all can be found! A very sad week to say the least- I have gotten up everynight this week to check on my 9 year old- I can't help it- I wae up and just wander into her room and sit there and listen to her breath- and ask God why? I believe in a master plan (my definition of faith) But am confussed by some of the exicutions of said plan! So to Jessie and Evan I say enjoy the release from this trivial World! BTW Edmunds is like 45 min. from my house - small world Huh!

Stefan, that's so sad about their baby boy. I can totally understand your need to check on your daughter, it's very scary to think they can be whisked away in a heartbeat.
Mark, I can so relate to you and your neighbor. My best friend is my neighbor Bunny, I call her the energizer bunny. She's an RN and still works 3 days a week, at a nursing home. It's kind of ironic, many of the patients there are much younger than she is. She's still going strong, thank the lord. I'm sorry for your lose, Bunny is going to be 72 this summer and the thought of losing her as a neighbor and a friend is an awful feeling.

Mark, I thought maybe this forum made some money off the banners in this site. I've clicked on one of the stores in the banner (and bought something) thinking I was making a contribution.
If you're not part of Google's pay per click program, it certainly wouldn't hurt to sign up. Alice

Mark, I gotta tap on in. I do not why, this forum is the only one I respect, and read daily, or sometimes not. Ya got moxie, and spunk, and roll in lordap! I really respect that. Your friend that passed on, set an example. In her own way, she must have been inspiring! I have only known a few folks like her, and they were when I was young. I helped a person rebuild from frame up a 1948, right hand MG, another person taught me to hunt, another taught me to fly. They were all people who in their own right, were pioneers. I took for granted other people thought like that and was suprised at the musings of most folk. Through this forum, I found a lot of folks who find beauty in the things I have. I would not have met these folks any other way. I appreciate what you have done, and I have referred a lot of people to this site from my shop. We are growing. I just saw, you said you are 35? Good for you. I did not have the chance to go off on my own untill I was 40. Good for you.
