The Midwest's largest outdoor museum of living history. They take old homes and farms from the early 1800's that European settlers built and then rebuild them on their site in Eagle Wi. Real cool stuff. Here are some of the pics from today. A bar in an old Inn where the hardest thing they served was rootbeer, This is inside an old Germany family home, And the waffle maker they had, The dinning room where they ate their German waffles from their German waffle maker, Old German barn, bake house, This is inside that little bake house, The main house, and their smoke house, This is an old Finnish house, And a Wisconsin wild turkey,

I like to look at these places and consider the day to day life style of the people. These folks knew how to take care of themselves and had little else to worry about. Some days I'm jealous of them.

Do people actually live there, or are they actors? Great pics!

Very interesting. I find places like that fascinating. The Finnish house looks like some in old family photos from Finland in the late 19th century. But, where's the sauna? And no fish in the smokehouse?
There is similar reconstructed fort and village in Green Bay that we found interesting (although I thought the railroad museum was more interesting).
Those times may have been simpler, but I'm not so sure about better. I would have been dead by now from a failed heart if not for modern medication and life-style changes. Also, there's a good chance that half of your children would not have made it past 6 years old.
In case anyone wants to try, here's the waffle recipe:
2 pound flour (these are metric pounds, 1=1.1 US pound) 1.5 liter milk 6-8 eggs 3/4 pound butter 20 grams yeast
In US units:
2.2 pound flour (I don't know how to convert pounds into cups) 6 1/3 cups milk 6-8 eggs 3/4 pound butter 1 oz. yeast

The Finnish house did have a sauna! Yesterday was their last day for the season so I imagine they had more meat and fish in the smokehouse when everything was in full swing. I would have loved to live back in those times. Simpler yes, easier, no. You got/had what you worked for.
