I told my honey I was gonna take a drive, by myself with Mojo & I didn't know when we'd be back soooo, he decided he'd like to go with us too.
We ended up in Longbeach Washington. (longest strip of uninterrupted beach in the world...yay! LOL About 23 miles or so) It was a real pretty day. Sunny, about 68 degrees & light wind. You can drive on the beach (that's pretty cool) and husband had never been there. A real quiet, laid back little town. Mojo & I ran on the beach & picked up junk. Here's the beach.
Nice to run & walk on but a little boring after awhile. Mojo found a couple of dead birds he tried to roll on but I got him outta there!
Best thing we did (according to Bob!) was visit Fort Discovery.
Right at the mouth of the Columbia River which separates Oregon & Washington, there is an old military fort. Started back in the late 1800's and used right up till end of WWII. On top of a beautiful cliff looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Built right into the cliff, it really is slightly eerie. To think our military hunkered down here, looking for the bad guys and ready to shoot the crap outta anyone that tried to get by.
Bob & Mojo. Underneath our feet is one area of the fort.
Where the big cheeses lived.
Sign says this was a jules battery. I remember playing in this 30 years ago. Gotta remember...all this is built into the cliff it sits on so anyone going by, doesn't even know it's there.
Now the guns weren't there when I was playing "war" at this site. I guess they brought them in mid 90's to set up for display. Could you imagine the earth shaking if they had been fired?
These 2 pics are just of views from this Fort over the ocean & the Columbia River. The pic of the distant mountains in the center is an area called Saddle Back Mountain. (no...not brokeback!) It's in Oregon and I guess has some of the worlds tallest Hemlock Trees.
OK...this next pick caught me off guard! There's this rinky dink museum in Long Beach, been there forever & everyone knows about it cause of Jake the Alligator Man. (It's been proven a fake, but he's half man, half alligator & he lives in an empty aquarium in the museum.)
Anyhoo, we get out of our rig to go inside, & I almost tripped on this...
It's just laying there, right next to the road in a grassy area of the parking lot to this museum! I know squat about fossils, but I'm guessing whale since it's right there at the beach.
These last 2 pics I got going over the Astoria Bridge as we went home. Ain't it pretty?
Hope you liked the pics!
