Funeral is finally over. It helped that to me he didn't really look like Dad. He had the nurses shave his beard when he was in the hospital and the funeral home combed his hair. Usually he walked around with a beard and a hat on. I made it through the funeral and lost it once my kids came. My oldest (4) has realized that something isn't 'right'.
Now the fun task of going through ALL my father's things. He was such a pack-rat. I've got his bedroom to go through PLUS three good size sheds. Then I've got a truck to sell and deal with the amish on another truck that he has. Long story.
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Stacey

Here's a picture I took a few months back of my Dad. I made a 18x24 print, framed it, and had the funeral director place it near the casket. Now I've got orders.

That's a real nice picture Stacey. He has a kind face. I'm sure it's hard to look at right now but it won't be long and you will realy enjoy having it.

What can I say, my heart goes out to you. I have a elderly father who has been through the ringer the last few years, I dread the day he goes. The heartache will fade in time and the great memories will replace it, hang in there.

Oh, hon, I am so sorry! You have had a lot to deal with lately. All I can say is that it will get better, eventually. Day by day, week by week. I remember when my dad passed away, and we went to the funeral home. I was really dreading that experience, but it turned out to be a blessing. When I touched my dad's cheek, I realized that his body was just an empty shell, and the part of him that was HIM had moved on, somehow, to another place. I can't explain how I knew that to be true, but I did. I know it sounds goofy, but for me, it was very comforting. (He also did not look like Dad; the funeral home had shaved his beard and mustache, and combed his hair differently... It was a bit strange, I do agree with you.) My thoughts and prayers are with you! And that is a really, really great picture. K
