Smoked his ass! ohh baby, was he good. Got the smoker fired up and up to temp. then laid him gently on the rack. Put the lid on after I added a couple handfuls of soaked chips and away he goes to a smokey delight. Took the lid off after 5.5 hours of smoking to a delicate, delicious taste pleaser. Hickory makes such a pleasant redish brown skin. Ready to go under the knife. Oh see the rocks I cut this morning between throwing wood chips on the fire? The aftermath...

I spent all day making molds. One in particular took three attempts. It looks like you had a great feast. I hope the family was there, someone made a fool of themselves, the uncle nobody talks about cut some serious cheese and you laughed and the wife got mad. Of all things, I hope you had health, and got to know people you are close to are safe. My son forgot I exist. The redneck neighbors had a fight and then a food fight, the cops that came ended up covered with food, there were arrests, much yelling, the dog got kicked, the redneck mud bogger ended up on the neighbors front steps after knocking down his garden. We stayed indoors and made stuff for the shop. Jewelery doesn't act like that. That looked like a serious smoked bird. Yeah! Oh, yeah, someone stole my grill. We had frozen lasagna.

Doc! I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I read your stuff so I guess I'll just do both! E- gotta tell ya...I've never seen a smoked turkey let alone tasted it. That's one weird lookin bird! But...you gave me a wonderful idea for a xmas gift for new son-in-law! No...not a smoked turkey! A smoker!!! My Thanksgiving was a real hoot. (no ones fault but our own!) I cooked 5 turkeys with homemade dressing & 30 gallons of turkey gravy. We are one of the few bars open on Thanksgiving and we were BUSY! Around 3 pm, a group of 4 older people came in. One gentleman was REAL frail. Took a long time to get seated, shook alot, just had that pallor to his skin that you knew he probably forced himself outta bed that day. Daughter Becky was working the floor like a maniac, I worked the bar & husband helped keep us caught up on dishes & glassware & helped run lottery stuff. We were just starting to lose our minds when Becky whispered in my ear, "Mama...that little old man over there just threw up all over himself, the table & everywhere. He's really sick." Man...I'm telling you, ya could have put a gun to my head right then. Long story short, he's dying of last stage cancer. His family brought him out to get him away from the nursing facility for a day. He was so embarrased, he kept telling me how sorry he was for causing trouble. I had to tell the other man he was with to take him to the restroom & clean him up some. I think they were so shocked it happened, they just stood there in the way as I slapped the latex gloves on & started cleaning up. That was when the girls told me he was dying. THAT took the wind right outta my sails. I tried to let them all know he was not a bother. That was life. I hope someone helps me, down the road, should I ever have a day like that or I shite meself in public! When I got back in the kitchen with the bus bin, I started the involuntary gagging! My poor guy in the kitchen was on the line when he heard me wretch. He ran in the back cause he thought I was sick then he started laughing when he saw my gloves & how I was trying to empty the nasty bin without tossing my own cookies. THEN...I had to break up a chick squabble over by the poker machines. Sheesh...girls can be a real pain in the ass. They don't listen. I made one turn around so she wouldn't get drawn back in to the fight & I had to tell a husband to get his wife outta there before he had to take her to the hospital to have my boot surgically removed from her ass. God I love my life! In the end, it was good because we fed alot of people & they said it was better than they were use to at home...Becky made $280 bucks in tips in less than 6 hours and it was a record sales day for 13 years of Thanksgiving. Hope all yours was good & happy!

earthdog,
That turkey looks AMAZING. My uncle used to own a restaurant on the coast and he would close it down on Thanksgiving and invite the whole family. As much smoked turkey, boiled shrimp and steamer clams that you could stuff your gullet with. Ahhh thems were the days.
Liz,
ROTFL....your story was just too much. You live close.....I have to come visit you, it'd be a hoot.

the color of that bird is amazing! i had smoked turkey once, but like Kev, never tried it myself and never saw it such a color. ya oughta enter that in the recipe contest if you could find a rock that was close to the color!
Doc, i love to see you posting again, but like Liz, don't know whether to laugh or cry for yas. it's a bad thing to steal another man's grill!
Liz, you are a better person than i am Gunga Din!!!! i think i would have lost my own cookies just cleaning it up in the first place. i gag cleaning cat puke. i have the urge to hurl just listening to other people or watching someone on TV. i would NEVER have made a good nurse.
eDog, great photos! what else can you smoke like that?

Dang nice bird- I got the honor of carving the 2 birds my MIL cooked- My wifes Grandfather backed out of the duty- then proceeded to tell me how to carve- after the first bird I put the knife down and excused myself till dinner was on the table- He was in a rant because I cut the white meat first (he only eats the dark meat) Told me I was contaminating his dark meat with all the white meat crumbs- Not sure who carved the second bird.....

Earthdog...looks like you make one mean smoked turkey. Looked so good, I could almost taste it. lol
Doc...to steal a man's grill, especially just before Thanksgiving, makes for heaps of bad JuJu for the culprit...I feel for ya.
And Liz...to think that you not only open your bar and feed the masses on Thanksgiving, but that you helped that poor old man...Karma is smiling upon you and yours and I've a feeling that only good things will come your way.
