I was talking to my friendly neighborhood army colonel yesterday about what the troops need and he and his seargeant major both suggested the above site. It's really comprehensive, give specific mailing directions and most of all, it says that if you REALLY want to do something, don't just stick a magnet on your car. Send a letter to a soldier. Really reach out and touch someone who could use a word from home. At this holiday time when I know packs of rocks will be flying around the US it might be nice to send a letter to someone who's far from home. Anysoldier.com.

I've been looking at that site myself Hermatite - I've not actually used it yet - we're thinking of sending some boxes of requested items through this site as a surprise for my Dad's Christmas present (yeah kinda seems backwards doesn't it? ). I was just looking it over the other day and it seems legit - you send something directly to the soldiers - there's no middle man as far as I can tell - which makes me feel better after some of the stories I've heard. Good to hear too that your neighborhood army colonel has heard of it and recommends it. If anyone else has used this site though I'd love to hear your experiences.

Thanks, Hermie, for posting this thread. I visited the website--anysoldier. It is hard to read their requests without feeling your heart bursting. I served stateside during the Viet Nam War but I was still a long way from "home". Care packages of any size mean so very much to the men and women in Uniform. Here's a direct link to help we RTHers spread our caring even more: anysoldier.com/Lady B--1st Lieutenant, Army Medical Specialist Corps, 1971-1973

It is hard to read their requests without feeling your heart bursting. You got that right, I am heading to Sam's Club this weekend. And I agree Hermy, this is much more than a Yellow Ribbon magnet. Wow, it just occured to me that Christmas is in 26 days as well. Holiday goodies on the way troops.
