Wow John, that is beautiful.......If you don't have to live in it. We had a storm like that about 5 or 6 years ago. We were without electicity for 7 days. Hope you and all yours are doing well and weather the storm without problems. Curt

It is pretty, but those ice storms are treacherous! It was predicted that we might get your storm, but because we are so close to Lake Michigan, it was just warm enough (by 2 degrees the weatherman said) that we didn't get it. They closed the schools yesterday in anticipation of the storm. We did get a lot of rain, so what didn't get dried up yesterday turned into ice skating rinks! Our street is one of them!
I hope your trees come back ok! It is amazing they are bending completely over like that!

I live in Jefferson City, Missouri and the population is 35,000. At the worst point 22,000 were without power. We have been blessed at our house and only lost power for a few hours on Sunday. We live in a heavily wooded area and trees are dropping like dominoes all around the house but nothing has hit the house. We have had a few friends staying with us and it has been rather fun! My son on the other hand is getting cabin fever! john

We had that kind of ice a few years ago John - amazing isn't it?!? It can just devastate an area - but is so beautiful at the same time. It's a bear to deal with though - we had a good portion of our area without power too - it seemed that as soon as they'd get one wire up/transformer repaired/connection made - ice would bring another tree limb down on another section close by and they'd have to start over. Hope some of our utility companies in the east show up to help you guys out - we had several crews from other areas in here and I think it made a big difference. We came out pretty lucky in the storm - no roof damage, electric was only out for about 8 hours, and mother nature took care of pruning our trees (however she doesn't have a very good eye for it and we came out all lopsided in that respect)... Hope your luck holds up and you guys come out of it relatively unscathed! Stay warm! shannon

That is stunning! Those pictures look like they were plucked straight from a fantasy novel.
It's hot and humid and our fans and air conditioner are working over time. While you all shiver, I can't stop sweating...gross.

Man, that is nice! That being said, I'm sure it must be hard. I can't imagine driving in something like that being without power and whatever else goes with it. Thanks for posting the pics though.

You beat me to it! I was snapping pictures this morning as well here. We didn't get as much as y'all did in Central MO - we only got the second storm. The first one went south by a few miles. My new co-workers are calling me cursed. They haven't had an ice storm like this since the winter of '01-'02. It just so happens that I left Kansas the following summer for New Mexico. And yes, once hitting New Mexico our county managed to become the wetest county in New Mexico. I think I'm going to hire out my next move to whatever state is in the most need of moisture. My sister thinks I should move to the Artic to help refreeze the polar ice caps.

It is very beautiful! But having had to go through one not so many years ago, I don't need a repeat - here in our region, some people were without power for 3 weeks! Lots of people died - Those with wood stoves were lucky! The power line towers here were crushed under the weight of all the ice.
My daughter, then about 3 1/2 said that grampa could fix all those broken trees - cuz you know that grampa can fix anything! - it was a wonderful thing for her to say, but unfortunately, there were just way too many for grampa to fix!
