They should be spending our dollars to protect our people on our shores, not in some desert where we aren't even wanted. Our soldiers are fighting a losing battle when all they really wanted to do was to protect their homeland.

I'm what most people would consider a hermit. I don't go out and "mix" with the public except when absolutely necessary. Although there are still a lot of good people left, there are just far too many people out there who do such horrific things that it scares me to death. On the rare occasion that I watch the news, I'm guaranteed to see some unbelievable atrocity that someone has commited, with no respect or regard for human life. I'm talking about "in the streets" ... warring is a whole 'nuther story!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the American people live in a very thin bubble of false security and well-being. What Americans are brainwashed into thinking is "freedom" is SO far from being anything that even remotely resembles being "free", it's far beyond sad. American "freedoms" are no more than actions which are ALLOWED by the government, in order to give Americans the ILLUSION that they are free. We are ALL slaves, whether you choose to accept it or not.
Every day, millions of people go to work to earn money. They tax your income, on the federal level, and often at state and local levels. Every day, people spend money. In most places in the US, they have "sales" tax. If you invest money, and that makes you money, you're usually taxed on it, at one point or another. If a person dies and leaves others money, in most places, the recipients must pay tax. There are also special taxes which are imposed on products which are included in their price, such as gasoline and cigarettes for example. If you ever sat down and figured-out how much of your money actually goes to the government, I don't think you'd feel so free.
Ahhh, but "that's the price for freedom", right? WAKE UP!!! The day-by-day methods of "getting business done" in Washington DC are well-known and flaunted. Big businesses PAY OFF our elected officials to vote for legislation which will help their businesses, with the final objective being to put more money in the hands of the people who own those companies (and there-by taking more money out of the hands of Mr and Mrs America). Isn't it funny how our elected officials allow their "constituants" to continue this practice of non-stop pocket-lining? And WHERE did the money come from to BRIBE those officials? From you and me, folks. WE bought the products and services which put the money in the pockets of the rich, in order to bribe the elected government officials! It's an out-of-control downward spiral, completely funded by those whom it is destroying!
And how about those "freedoms"? Let's hit the sore spot first ... The Right To Bear Arms. Over two centuries ago, that had real meaning. Today, let's face it, it really means very little except for hunting and home protection against criminal trespassers. Unless you have a nuke hidden in your basement, your weapons are useless against invading forces ... or US forces. Throughout history, one of the main reasons that governments have not allowed their people to have weapons has been so that they could not FIGHT BACK against THEIR OWN government! Remember your US history, folks ... one of the main reasons the "pilgrims" fled England was because the monarchy of England bled their subjects dry, with no means of fighting back! Fast-forward over two hundred years ... we still have the "right" to bear arms. Or do we? Which store do you go to if you want to buy a fully-automatic machine gun, a bazooka, or a tank? Where is the plastic explosives isle at Walmart? What we have the "right to bear" is the equivalent of what a slingshot would have been to the British, over 200 years ago. HELLO? Anyone seeing history repeating itself here? Hmmm ... a government that keeps digging deeper and deeper into our pockets while they get richer, while the masses feel that it's hopeless, yet they're defenseless against it. Study your history folks ... that's ALWAYS the downfall of a civilization, brought-on by REVOLUTION! Most people here have been blinded for so long, under this government's thin yet effective veil of imaginary freedom, that they don't don't think it could ever happen here. It's not just possible, it's imminent. The cycle will not change, there will be no reform, the rich will not stop getting greedier by the day, and the people WILL reach their breaking point. It's just a matter of time ... andprobably not as long as most of us would think.
Want to see very good proof of a "right" versus a "government control"? Go down to the Department of Motor Vehicles and pick-up some of their literature. In it, you'll find that they often refer to your "driving PRIVILEGE". Notice that's not your RIGHT ... the government ALLOWS you the PRIVILEGE of driving THE CAR YOU BOUGHT WITH YOUR OWN MONEY on the streets which were paved using YOUR TAX DOLLARS. How about their system of fining those who "break" their rules for operating a vehicle? Is there any method of fining people according to their income? Nope. A fine which would mean nothing to a rich person often devastates a poor person, taking food off of their family's table. Your response may be ... well then they should have obeyed the traffic laws. HUH? THINK ABOUT THAT! A poor person should be more careful to obey the law, because it will impact their life more? If that's how you think, then you really should contemplate your perspective regarding how a FAIR society should be. The rich in this country are afforded almost EVERY advantage by the laws of this country.
Is there even reason to delve into the subject of the illegal federal income tax and the IRS thugs? Nah ... that's common knowledge.
Isn't it funny how one of the world's super-powers can keep sending it's young men and billions of dollars off to oil-producing nations? People here are STARVING! This "great" nation won't even take responsibility for the health of their people! WHY isn't there FREE national health and dental care? WHY are there homeless people here? IMO, not another CENT of our money should leave this country until OUR people are properly cared-for.
Okay, my fingers hurt...
*Climbs down off his soapbox, takes a bow, and runs for cover*

Exactly MJ.
And that is why I keep preaching "Vote the suckers out. Every election, vote the incumbant OUT. EVERY TIME. EVERY ELECTION."
We don't have many freedoms left. Use the one we still have while we still can.

Curt, the problem is that anyone running for office is doing-so because they KNOW how they will benefit by holding that office. They already know the game, and only desire the office in hopes that they can play the game even better. The name of the game isn't "Serve the Peoples' Interest", it's "Line the Pockets". Those who declare otherwise (all of them) are just flat-out liars. No matter who's in office, the game continues, but "the names are changed to protect the guilty".
On the subject of voting ... how about that "Electoral College"? The continuation of that antiquated system is just another way of taking away the power of our individual votes. Isn't it FUNNY how that system hasn't been abolished by our "elected" government?

BuiltonRock, although I am not Christian, I can relate to your concerns regarding world-wide moral decline. Regardless of religious beliefs, somewhere deep down, I believe that every person knows the difference between right and wrong. Obviously, far too many people are ignoring the fact that they know that their actions are wrong, regardless of repercussions in this life or thereafter. Although many religions would like to claim that this problem is due to the fact that more people are not following their particular religious beliefs, that's just not the case. This problem is far greater and deeper than the mere belief and followings of any particular religious sect or deity.
I was very surprised when you said that "We still feed the starving, release the captive, heal the sick". The entire lower and middle class of this country ARE captive, with millions starving and without proper medical and dental care. People are losing their homes due to inflation and unemployment. BIG mortgage companies are going under because people can't pay, and houses sit vacant because the lending institutions have had to tighten the requirements for lending. I've known many people who worked all their lives to accumulate what they could, only to lose it all to pay for medical bills as they got older. I've also known people with sick kids who had to struggle their whole lives because they had to pay for their child's treatments. Drive to any big city and open your eyes ... you'll see more homeless, sick, starving people than you can imagine. You CAN'T miss them! While you're there, drop-in to a few "soup kitchens" and see what's on the menu, then ask the administrator where they get their funding.
Brother, honestly, if you have the strong spiritual values which you've proclaimed here, you really need to see beyond the media, patriotism, and hype, and discover some real truths. You seem like a REAL good man, and I think you would find a lot of opportunities to do a lot of good for others if you realized just how many people really need escential help, probably much closer to home than you imagine.

mj you have some valid points.....since im not into politics i cant get into that....but...we use our firearms for more than hunting and home protection.
if we decide to just go to the woods and shoot up a case of shells for relaxation we can....if we want to spend a day shooting clays we can...we can carry them around with us in the boat when we are fishing....stuff like that.
but you are correct about history and gun control....it is correct the original thoughts about we bearing arms....was to ward off invading forces...just 1 reason japan didnt invade...and that was about 1940.
A LITTLE GUN HISTORY
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated ------------------------------ Guatemala established gun co ntrol in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------- ----------------- Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ Cambodia established gun control in 1956 From 1975 to 1977, one million educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------------- Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million. ------------------------------ It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
List of 7 items: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break- ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'.
Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

Cpdad, I hope you didn't misunderstand my intent. Just to be clear, I'm ALL for decent people who choose to own AND CARRY a gun. There are a lot of whack-jobs out there, and it should be an adult's born right to carry a weapon to defend himself, his family, or others. Here in Nye County, Nevada, it's fairly simple to buy a gun and get a permit to carry it. A LOT of people take full advantage of that right, and it's COMMON to see people with a holster on their side. On casino doors here, the sign doesn't say "No Firearms Allowed", it says "Please Check Your Firearms At The Desk". Home burglaries are VERY rare here, because most people have dogs AND guns, and the "bad guys" know it. So, if we were "allowed" to own machine guns and bazookas, wouldn't that be an even greater reason for other countries to think twice about invading us? The US government doesn't see it as being our "right" to have that kind of security. So, just keep that in mind when Canada invades us. I'm generally a pretty mild-mannered man, but if someone puts my family in danger you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm not going to "turn the other cheek".

MJ, Thank you for the compliment. I agree with alot of what you wrote and some I don't. That is one of the great freedoms we have in this country.
I do not recall claiming any spiritual value, I only expressed my beliefs. I fail everyday at living up to the values I hold and that is precisely why I am thankful for God's grace.
I think I have a pretty realistic view of our world. I have worked in social services now for almost 14 years and started a ministry a little over a year ago designed to help people who are in bondage. The bondage of drugs, alcohol, debt, co-dependency, gambling, pornography, anything that keeps them from becoming all God intended.
A small group of these freed people adopted a mom and 3 kids recently and moved them from the Salvation Army to an apartment that we furnished with everything including a Christmas tree and presents.
I do not like to toot my own horn as it diminishes my treasure in heaven and looks foolish here on earth, but I think some perspective is appropriate. I donate well over 10% of my gross income. I volunteer well over 10% of my time. I mentor in the public schools, I mentor men in my home, I am involved with a halfway house, I work with our children's group at church, but my most important work is done here in my home with my wife, son, me and God.
Please understand that left to my own devises I am nothing. Before Christ changed me I was an angry, bitter, mean, hateful and selfish man. I surrendered my weakness to Him and only through Him can I even attempt to make this world a better place.

John, a lot of good people donate their time, money and efforts to the less fortunate, but there's only so much that individuals, or even churches, can do. There will always be special needs which require special attention, but a lot of America's woes are due to the federal government throwing an insane amount of money all over the world instead of taking proper care of the Americans FIRST. IMO, there's no excuse for the fact that Americans have to pay for medical and dental treatment. That absolutely disgusts me. NO person should be involuntarily homeless, and NOBODY should be hungry or malnourished. It should not be left to individuals, churches, or other organizations to see to these issues which our government has chosen to ignore.
Whether people care to see it or not, the US government just keeps giving to the rich and taking from the rest of us, and it gets worse all the time. They won't even take care of our basic human needs, yet they have their hands in our pockets every chance they can possibly get. The American Dream is rapidly becoming a nightmare for millions and millions of people. History has a habit of repeating itself, and I hope that someday soon the attitudes of the 60s will return to the young people of America, and that they will have more success in rebelling against this government and find better ways of bringing the political and social injustices to light.
