Wondering where you are located? I was looking at the agates (Sweetwater), and wondered if you've ever been to Agate Flats, past Jeffrey City? I have some pretty ones from that area. Just past Flats is a dry streambed--have some pretty agates from there too.

Slydog, I'd love to know exactly where you mean. I also have some Sweetwater agates that I picked up right by Sweetwater Station next to Bison Basin Road -- mainly known historically as collecting area for apple green jade. We found a few small pieces that might be apple green jade and a lot of agates. The Agate Flats must be near there I believe?

Puppie, here are the exact directions to Agate Flats. I have gallon buckets full of agates from that area. Many are quite small, but pretty. Favorites: the black ones that you have to hold up to the light to see the moss inside! Leave Lander WY heading S on 287. At the junction, turn left, you are now going E on 287. Take 287 to Jeffrey City. About 5 miles past Jeffrey City, take a left on Agate Flats Rd. Follow that about 8 miles to Agate Flats. There will be cattle there, they will stay a distance from you. This is a gravel/dirst road. If you stay on that road, you will come to an area with a dry creekbed, another good place to find agates/arrowheads. Once you get to Agate Flats, you will see some big hills across the barbed wire fence. Look there too---those hills were used in WW2 for aircraft ammo target practice, you can still find metal clips, etc. pretty neat!
