Gorgeous stuff. A quick search on ebay show lots of beads, cabs and a few carvings, but no rough. Is it something where there is only one mine, and all the rough is spoken for? -Don

jrtrio: Yep the blue is very nice which is why it goes by the nickname of " Desert Lapis". It's actually dumortierite in quartz and is quite dense and hard.
Don, It's actually found on open public land not that far south of the Hauser beds in Indian pass east of Hwy 78 south. If you're willing to hike there's lots around but it takes a lot of chipping because all the rock in that area is covered by desert varnish, sort of a dark oxidation. The location is in all the Calif gem trails sort of books .There is also lots of fine palm root and brecciated jasper similar to Stone Canyon jasper in the same area.....mel
