Hi there. Here is another picture. This is not a tumbling rock but maybe someone out there knows anyway? If more pictures are needed let me know. This is formed in thin layers.. so what would it's cleavage be?? Anyway.. any guesses? Thanks!

Quartz of some sort. Looks cool. Wish I could help you but don't worry. Someone with defined wisdom will come in here and let you know. Tonja

Thanks LadyT. I (think) that it's actually Calcite layered with Barite. Tammy

Get a piece of quartz and see how easy you can scratch it. If it scatches easy then it is not quartz

Clear & thin layers. Could it be Muscovite! Has it a perfect basal cleavage

Hi there. I've been told that it's Selenite with Silt inclusions.. seems to fit. Tammy

I'm not saying that is NOT selenite...but all of that I've ever seen, is frosty looking, not clear.

Check out this website. True Selenite is actually clear very often.. comes in tons of different shapes and has lots of different inclusions. Gypsum is often passed as Selenite but there is a slight difference in their makeups.. but Gypsum is often the cloudy variety that you may be thinking of. Also, Selenite has a hardness level of 2 (which you can scratch with a fingernail) And, this stuff can definatly be scratched with a fingernail. This is a great website showing a gallery of Selenite's. www.mindat.org/gallery.php?cform_is_valid=1&min=1784&cf_pager_page=60Tammy
