Well, the parents sent a few pictures of some weekend finds. They were found along the Colorado River out in West/Central TX. The first looks like possibly some kind of fossil, or actually maybe lots of little fossils? The second, hard to tell but that strip down the top middle makes me think agate or something similar. I'll ask for more pics or take more when they send them to me. Thanks, Clickable

First specimen is what we call "Devils Toenails" out here ( others call it clam chowder stone) Ours is usually small clam shells or cradle shells in limestone but I'd imagine the Texas material, being older is probably brachiopods or one of the older clam varieties in limestone. The second looks a little like an agate but again, a lot of the Colorado River area is limestone country so I'd guess it's probably a hunk of travertine with agate like banding. If you can scratch it with a knife it's probably travertine, if not, it's probably flint or agate of some kind.....mel

I've got some similar to the top one but it's a very light grey in colour..
I thought it's fossil remains in limestone or sometimes called siltstone
Quite hard to get a good polish as it's quite soft but looks good if you manage it.
