I received this large chunk of rock from an older gentleman. He can't remember what it is. Can anyone help? It's an amazing piece. There are other photo angles in the same album. Thanks! K

I'd say it's Youngite from near Guernsey, Wyoming....mel

That makes sense; he gave me other rocks from WY. Here's another one. It was stuck to newspaper, which I have tried to get off with partial success. I think he set it down in a puddle of some kind of 'clear coat' stuff. Any ideas on how to clean it off?

Boy you've got me on that last one. I'm pretty good at quartz family minerals but not so much on others. Were it not for the green in the blue, green, purple combo, I'd think maybe dumortierite in quartz but the green and blue makes it sound like some kind of metallic mineral complex like azurite, malachite and chrysocolla. Only a guess though. I'd have to see that one in person to be very certain....mel

Hey, it's not that big, I could stick it in one of those bubble wrap envelopes.

Karen: Nah, someone here will ID your specimen from the pic. Jamie ( desertdweller) is very knowledgable on copper complex minerals as is Shain (freeform).....mel

Not sure what the second one is, but the first one is definately Youngite. One of my favorite fluorescent minerals. It fluoresces a bright green color under short wave light.

I can't wait to get a black light and see how it glows! Maybe you should get one of those cheap black light flashlights; depending on how much of it is around, it could be really weird walking thru a glowing rockscape. I would love to have someone with a big saw cut it into thinner slabs, so I could put one on a stand or something. Right now, it won't stay upright. Have fun hunting, you lucky duckite! I should have hounded more, back when I lived in Sundance, lol.
