If its light in weight, my frist guess would be Amber. Seems like some areas have a glossy sheen? It may also be a piece of Amokey/citrine quartz if its not light in weight. Those two would be my best guesses for the moment. Looks like no matter what it is, that it would cut very nice.

It definitely looks like amber. Try burning the tip of it. If it smells like pine -- or melts at all, for that matter -- it is amber.

If it's soft, it's amber, but if it's hard (and it seems so looking at its sharp edges) could be a great piece of opal. Try to scratch it with a pionted knife.

Amber didn't even cross my mind, that sure looks like fire opal to me.

It's really beautiful. I'm going with Amber tho I don't know much about it. It reminds me of something in the same family as Lybian Desert Glass? T.

Thanks for the feedback. The rock is unusually heavy. It weights more than any other rock I have in my collection.

That is an interesting fact, so that would rule out both amber and opal, (but especially amber).
Looks like you've got us stumped! for now anyway.....

My boss says it is probably glass slag from heavily leaded glass. That would explain the weight.

That is good guess Cleo, after reading ozzman stating it was qiute heavy. I would concer with that guess. I have some leaded glass for faceting that is carnary yellow. Its qiute heavy, and extremely transparent.
