Hello, I have some fossils that I can't identify The first one I even don't know if it is a seed (fruit) or a sort of shell. It's perfectly round (spherical), excepting the three "claws" that converge one to each other. Maybe a close up will help: The other one is clearly a bone. It's pretty light so I suppose it's not petrified, but it's very large and I doubt it belongs to a present-day cow or such. If you look carefully, you'll see that only a part of the bone's surface remained, so the entire bone was much bigger (it had a cross section of about 12 ... 14 cm diameter, I think). I found it on a riverbed. What animal could that have been? Thanks for any help and for looking, Adrian

Hey Adrian
I'm sure not an expert, but I believe #1 is a sea urchin. I have a lot those I've found around here. The bone is out of my range of knowledge, which you don't have to go far to get out of my range. :-)

Adrian, can you take a photo of the other side, if there's a couple of round or oval shaped 'holes' in the shell tha tare sort of on opposite ends of the shell, then it is a sea biscuit variety of echinoid. You had a good guess Curt.
That bone's definitely had some mineralization to it, it's a fossil. Of what, hard to tell. Could be a mammoth or any other sort of huge Pleistocene aged mammal. Dan

Thank you, Dan and Curt! Here are two pictures of the opposite side of the sphere, to me there are no obvious holes. Adrian

now I don't know what it is. Those images are a bit hard to grasp the 3-d aspect of it.
