Lesley...There are others here more suited to give their opinions...but the Lord hates a coward! It's a truely FINE display piece ya got no matter what it is, fer sure. Best guess...amethyst on quartz. Where'd ya get it? That, in itself, can sometimes lead you to the proper ID.

I agree it is awesome. The shape of the crystals would help with the id part I can't tell how the clearish ones are terminated; the purple look like amethyst

I would have to agree, amazing display piece! I have a very small piece similar to that, from my dad's collection; if you get an ID, please let me know. I would agree with the quartz and amethyst, but I await the experts. I know there are other clear crystals, some of which end in different points. Some of your clear points look like some other crystals I have from my dad. Can't wait to see what the experts decide!

Looks like fluorite to me. I would say fluorite with calcite crystals.

If I remember rightly this was part of a job lot of stuff I got from ebay - some of the clear crystal tips have snapped off but apart from that it looks intact. I don't really collect specimens so that was why it was packed away - I just found it and thought oooooooooooh that's purdy!!!

That is a wonderful mineral specimen.Lets look at the crystals for a moment. The purple crytals are cubic and "pyramid" formation......Fluorite.The clear crystals are tabular and at first I thought Albite.Yet there doesn't appear to be any pyrite which I would expect to see in an Fluorite/Albite combination. So the only tabular crystal I can remember associated with Fluorite is Barite, which I believe it is.Very impressive specimen and you should be proud.

I thought it was definately amethyst. The last picture looks awesome when it's in light. Very nice rock!
