It is a very cleverly disguised terrorist mustard rock bomb. Put face and breathing protection on, carefully wrap it in 3 layers of newspaper and 2 layers of plastic and send it to me for safe disposal. The longer you wait, the more danger you and your whole town are in. Do it now............Tony

I want to know how it just suddenly arrived on your porch!!! I'm with Tony on this one. Wrap it up and send it far, far away! Idaho is too close. Send it over here to Florida. I can dip it in the Gulf and cleanse it of any alien impurities. Then I'll put it someplace very safe where it can't just suddenly show up on anyone else's porch!
Be afwaid. Be vewy afwaid!!!
Lady B
(P.S.--It looks too pail to be Mozarkite. Where's Moe-zark Man when you need him?)

Thats weird, the outside of the rock has the exact same kind of crust as the Burro Creek pastelite. Is that real common Mel?

I have seen Mozark or chert that pale. Mozark is just chert that had some water born minerals flow into it. Help me out here Mel. We have light grey and light purple chert all around Jefferson City here, it shines up real good and is very hard, Rubideau some call it?? john

*LOL* Shoot, I don't know. Lots of stuff looks similar to that. It does look to me like some kind of flint/mozarkite/chert type stuff but Jamie's right too, lots of the pastelite samples I've seen have that kind of crust and swirly lookin patterns. Even some of our Mojave desert jaspers look somewhat similar....Mel

Thanks for the informed input everybody! Part of the mystery is solved. The rock was deposited on the porch by the son of some friends that winter in Arizona. It was purchased at Quartzite and the name slipped the memory ;D. From your discussion and a little research I am leaning toward pastelite. I am totally not familiar with pastelite or mozarkite and am quite frankly half baffled by most of the crypto-crystalline silicates. My first impression was possibly slightly altered flint as the chert around here is a tad more earthy than the flint.........Thanks again........Bob
