Wow, these new boards are great Ok, I know I'm being lazy, and I apologize, but since this is a new board I thought it might be appropriate to ask anyway. I want to try this wire wrapping stuff. I have some copper and aluminum wire, but its dead soft and proving extremely frustrating to work with. Can anyone recomend a good place to get a spool of the appropriate kind of craft wire? And advice about exactly which sizes and styles you prefer? I know myself... i have enough tumbled stones to practice on, and it will take a lot of practive for me to even begin to approach what some of you are doing with your cabs. I prefer to have more than I need to get started so i don't feel so much pressure to make every milimeter count, lol. I could also use some help with the tools. I got a few pair of jewelers pliers from a local supply company, but their stocks were low and I couldn't find what I was looking for. If you have pictures of what you use in the way of tools, and advice about which ones are your favorites and why, that would greatly help as well. I've been trying to follow the tutorials by doc for wrapping and banjo already moved into this section. As good as the descriptions are, I am a very visual person and pictures really make it much easier for me to understand what you are talking about. Thanks in advance!

bernieslapidary.com is where I got my stuff, I'm still using brass wire until I think that I'm good enough to use gold wire.

I bought the same kit Kim mentioned in her post. It's a great kit for a good price I think. I also bought my practice craft wire at Michael's. I am just starting out practicing and don't want to use the gold or silver wire until I'm sure I can do it without messing up the wire!

Practice wire helps with measuring. The wraps do not come out untill you use sterling, or gold. Get one ounce of .025 square and have at it. Sands started on sterling and look at his first one. That is what it takes. Get only hard. The other grades do not look good in a wrap.

thanks doc... I wish I could afford the sterling, but at the moment I don't think I can. I'll have to find the camera tomorrow and post pics of the tools I have... I know I need to get at least one or two sets of pliers, but am not sure what would work best. Anyway, thanks for your help!
