Wonering if anyone has any feedback on his class material, style, or the value of instruction. I am feeling somewhat limited.

Preston is a good teacher. If you get one of his tapes, you will have seen what is needed. He covers the basics really well. From there, the imagination is the director.

His lessons teach sculpting, not quite the same as wire-wrapping. There's a fairly simple double loop to hold the wire to the stone then the swirls and curls are added later.

Banjo -
I think it's Trish who has one of his videos & uses the info to create her wraps that she sells on ebay. I think the main difference in Preston Reuther's way of doing things, compared to most others, is that you don't have to use pliers to shape the wire - you just use your hands for the most part, anyways. I imagine that means a softer, more flexible wire is used, but I'm just guessing.
And he does call his method "Wire Sculpture" instead of the traditional term of "Wire Wrap".

That is the basics of Prestons library. His teaching is very comprehensive. I have found, the tapes must be watched a lot to catch all the nuances of the wrapping. The finished product is indeed sculpting, if desired.. The most complicated part of the wrapping, is finishing around the intersection of the wrap wires. At the simplest, it looks unfinished, the variety of techniques I have seen, some are way too artsy crapsy, to just flowing with the design. For what it is, he does a good job and his designs can be adapted to a variety of designs. I have several, and I am pleased with the product.

So how about someone lending me or selling me one of their CD's for a bit of expansion of my already limited knowledge? I am happy with what I am doing, but am interested in an alternative that I have not yet learned. Thanks Doc, for all you've done for me. I am staying busy.

Banjo, I have his first tape and that is all you really need to learn the technique. From there on, just use your own imagination. It does require more wire than the wire wrap, but is so much easier to do, for me on the fingers and the nerves. He does use dead soft wire. The Videos can be purchased on his Ebay site for less than half what he sells them for on his Web site. Trish

Banjo:
I would be please to lend you our copy of "The Gold Wire Sculpting System" by Preston Reuther. It is entitled Introduction to Wire Sculpture Part 1.
This is the only one I purchased from him. I guess there are more advanced discs but I don't have them.
If you would like to borrow pm me with your mailing info.

I would LOVE to borrow the copy of Prestons technique! I "won" an auction for a CD Rom about Master Wire Wrapping sold by Gerald L. Wykoff and GemLore Productions. And in my opinion this guy is a rip-off artist from the word go. I told him that what he sold me didn't match the "ad" he had for his CD Rom and his reply was that most dealers won't give refunds for pirateable media!! This CD has video with no sound and sound with no video!! He said that's what people had told him they wanted!! THEN there's the song "Misty" and another song in the middle of the thing!! No video showing anything, just the music! And it's COMPUTER MUSIC!!! So, beware!! Stay away from this guy!! And if anyone doesn't believe me here's the link to the CD ROM on EBAY and then after you read it and are interested in it, I'll send it to you FREE!! That's right FREE! Just so you too can see what crap this guy is selling to people. This is it! cgi.ebay.com/CD-ROM-Creating-Beautiful-Wire-Wrap-Jewelry_W0QQitemZ5021920487QQcategoryZ505QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Preston sounds like George Bush - anyone else think this? Maybe it's just me
Crap Banjo, if any one DOESN'T need a wrapping lesson it's you!

Sooo...does anyone have any other suggestions for learning wire wrapping? What else is out there on CD? I mean after seeing some of Banjo's, Kim's and others work I'm starting to get interested in the wire wrapping....
Oh.... so much too learn and very little time...
