My wife and I were talking with a neighbor last evening and the neighbor noticed that my wife was wearing a wrapped stone I had made. She told us that she has a friend that does similar work and gave me her web site address....so I went for a visit this morning and I really like the stuff she's doing... Have a look if you like... www.potionsdesigns.com/dan

Too bad the sites not designed for people on dial up, I would have liked to check it out but I'll only wait for pics here. Aww well ... some day maybe.

Dang...Sorry Cher. She's basically taking what looks like rough stone or lap polished stones and creating wire wrapped necklaces with a native American style....pretty neat stuff.

dan i like yours better too. what i can't tell is if they are completely rough or flat lapped like you said. if they are at least polished on 1 side, i might like the rough look on the edges for a more casual look. they are just missing out on so much of the beauty if they don't polish at least 1 side.

Hmmm..didn't realize it was that slow to open. I'm on a 20 mb pipe here at work!! Didn't try to open it at home which is about T1 speed or better.... There were a couple on the page that really stand out but they were farther down the list... Oh well...

i have only seen wrapped items here on this board...i have seen.. im so embarassed..my first try...aint it ugly...so forth and so on....i sure hope i dont hurt anyones feelings...but i looked at everyone of the peices...the wraps look like they would break easily...they look thin..malnourished... maybe like kinda the wrap needed another wire to go along with all of the single wire...i have not seen a wrap on this board that looked as thin as that...maybe thats a compliment to everyone here...sorry just in a honest mood.

Gosh, I thought 'potions' stuff was beautiful, very creative! It's a little different, true, and perhaps not what I like personally, but I give her an 'A+' for artistic content and creativity!

I thought they were pretty cool as well Slydog so i just posted the link so folks could take a look at something a little different. I wasn't really comparing them with anybody elses work. Most have their own style and i think it's good to see what others are doing.

While the single wire does look fragile, I think they are pretty and I really like the bead accents.

Hey Dan! I just went & looked too, and loved her stuff! ANY wrapping, IMHO, is beautiful and I find the things here in RTH show a love & a talent that I, obviously, do not have. But there is something about her work that definately calls to me.
LOVE the raw, natural beauty of the stones, minerals & shells she uses. Makes me think of what it might have been like back in the good ol' caveman days when a shiney object was found & how proud that person would have been to wrap it up in some strings made out of intestines or such, then walk around hoping it might catch the eye of some hot little cave mama, then badda bing! Instant envy of all the other cavetrolls cause you got the bling & you got the babe!
I absolutely agree about the polishing of stones. The beauty cabbing, in particular, can bring out in a stone is, in some ways, a miracle. If any of you have ever seen pink tourmaline cabbed up, WOW! That is one of my fav. stones.
Someday I plan on giving wrapping a stab. I really admire the work I see here on RTH, but since this gals work is in my backyard...think I'm gonna have to go peek.
Thanks for the link...Liz

Hey Liz...glad you liked her stuff! I too found the raw natural look of her work...it's very appealing when it's done right. I prefer a more finished look for my work but there's a place for all styles. It's my understanding that 'found ' objects are very important in some Native American cultures and can have signifigant spiritual meaning...perhaps she is creating her peices with that in mind.
If you get a chance to meet the artist be sure to let her know how you found out about her...apparently the neighbor that I met is one of her close friends...her name is Julie and lives in Houston....
Have a good one! Dan
