I'm getting ready to take the plunge and buy some silver and gold filled wire before the prices achieve standard orbit. What do most of you recommend, 20 or 22 gauge (Doc, I'm only using gauge for convenience, I'll order by size.) , dead soft or half hard? Also, what is the average length of wire needed to make a pendant?

Last time I ordered I got 22 gauge dead soft round & square then got 22 gauge half hard half round for wrapping the wires together. Average length of wire varies with each pendant and with what you have in mind for it. I'm on a very limited budget so I try to squeak out every single inch I can. I measure each stone to see how much I need to go around then add 5 inches to whatever it is. Another thing that determines how much you'll use is if you use four pieces of wire in the wrap or if you use three. There's lots of variable for it.
