As I've gotten numerous requests for the chainmaille info regarding the montana agate wrap, I'll post it here for all to check out if anyone else is interested`
Here are the links I've been sending out:
Here's what I found:
mailleartisans.org/weaves/index.cgi
instructions.maileofthedreamseeker.com/index.html
theringlord.org/phong/
derakon.chainmailstore.com/inst.html
artofchainmail.com/patterns/index.html - scroll down for the weaves - there are 3 or 4 styles and then variations of each style
www.metaldesignz.com has lots of rings AND kits AND pliers (I really like this place - Shelley is really helpful)
Here's a forum of weaves & information
www.theringlord.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?
you can go here: theringlord.com/ for rings - they're in Canada but have US pricing - they also have an inspiration gallery for ideas Those sites may lead you to other good sites too
Those linksa are good places to start & Tami (creativeminded has lots of pics of things she's done in chainmaille too) - if you buy rings, get aluminum to practice as it's cheap and you get a lot for the money and the rings aren't super hard to work - you also need 2 pairs of pliers (flatnose or needlenose) without teeth is better but you can file off the teeth - or you can wrap craft wire around knitting needles to start & practice opening & closing rings - as well as to try the different weaves - you'll soon learn that some weaves work with certain size rings )or aspect ratio - which I know nothing about but you can read up on if you're interested, I usually just ask) otherwise they're too tight or too loose. The ringlord forum (above) has a great photo gallery as well as a discussion board where you can ask questions and check out answers
For a small fortune, you can get complete precious metal kits at www.urbanmaille.com - the kits are made of sterling silver rings and they come with instructions, rings, findings and 2 pairs pliers I believe - check out what they have, but you can find the weaves on any of the sites I mentioned above and you can the purchase the rings from the above places too (I don't know of any place in the states that has rings, you may have to research a bit) Let me know if you need any help I may be able to help you
You can contact me if you need more information
Good luck
