All I can say is that the quality of your wraps are consistantly equal, all in the excellent range.

Quick, before Tweetie pops in - wire type, etc.? :-)
Awesome as always. I like the placement of the bottom wrap - that really adds to the character!

shelby i used 14k gf 22 gauge sq soft wire with 14k gf 21 g 1/2 hard 1/2 round binding wire.
kj i am going to my first craft show october 14th. it is a big thing for us in the delta and alot of "out of towners" come for this show. since there is so little to do in our area, this festival has become the weekend for all class reunions but this year it is the 100 yr reunion for the local h.s. so it includes all classes still alive. even if none sell, maybe it will generate some future sales.

Another question for our "wire wrap master (mistress?)...Now that I see your beautiful waves and after having tried to UNSUCCESFULLY duplicate them with 1/2 hard wire, I'm wondering - does the working you do in shaping them harden the wire enough for it to be sturdy when people wear the necklaces? or do you do something else to harden the wire? When you sell the pieces do you enclose them in plastic baggies or give people anti-tarnish strips...? :-) Thanks in advance!

Not that I'm an expert (far from it) But gf (gold filled right?) wire won't tarnish- SO that should not be a problem-- But I often wonder How durable wraps are also? Awesome Work Kim!

Kim-let us know how you do! In fact, I'm going to put a little reminder on my calendar to ask you. I've got my first fair in October also-I may have gotten myself in for more than i can handle, 2 on the same date. I've got a friend working one of them for me. Then, I have another on in November. Take a picture of your booth set up for sure-I have NO idea how I'm setting my table up! I don't want to spend a bunch of money right now on display cases, so I'm trying to wing it!

shelby i clean & straighten my wire with a polishing cloth before i get started which starts the hardening process then straighten it with nylon pliers (more hardening). by the time i have pulled and straightened on the wire for 2 hrs it is well into the hardening process.
i gently hand clean them after they are completed with a polishing cloth then wash them in a mild soap and warm water, pat them dry, then store them in cases. i would highly recommend a gentle hand cleaning process for the sake of the stone more than the wire. i recently put some earrings in a commercial jewelry cleaner and ruined the stones. i would recommend keeping each piece in a jewelry bag, box (i send mine out in a box) or a small ziplock bag to keep the piece from damage from other pieces of jewelry and it will reduce tarnishing. all stones are harder than metal so you could scratch the metal up if not stored properly. they should hold up and be a lifetime piece of jewelry under normal conditions. i wear mine in all sorts of conditions including coaching sports and they do fine. i think you'd have to put one to a real test to destroy it but i'm sure it could be done. the hardest activity i've found on jewelry is horseback riding. i've lost a many a piece of jewelry with enough beer and a need to rush while singing the bonanza song. this also may cause other people to lose their jewelry as horses seem to really like that bonanza song. so stay away from the bonanza song and you should be fine! you might not want to turbo mow in one either......
kj i saw someone at a show in the spring who had used those sample trays with no cover or glass on them. they had put sand in the trays and set their wraps on the sand with shells sprinkled around. it was simple and elegant.

Something else that wire wrappers do to harden and polish finished pieces is to tumble in steel shot. According to Connie Fox, and a few other's I've run across, this hardens and polishes as well. Connie has directions on her web page. She tumbles almost all of her stuff and lists what NOT to tumble (glass beads, etc). I haven't tried yet, but wonder how some softer stones would do with this method.
