Hi, I'm playing around with new stuff. This is a local river stone - jasper I'm guessing. 20 dead soft SS & 26g HH SS This is a citrine crystal I was given by a frined. Wasn't sure what to do with it. The point was really pretty, but the base ugly, so I covered it up! 20 &26gSS, the metal beads are recycled from an old necklace, so I'm not sure what metal they are...not silver tho!!!

Shelby - I'M flabberghasted at that first one! WOOOOW! For the second, I like too, but would have made the basket a little higher maybe - or maybe a cage of some sorts??? What do I know I can see lots of wire being used in that first one! - I love it!

Thanks Tweetie! I'm in love with the way of doing wraps on that first one. It's just EXPENSIVE for wire!
I was stuck on the second one as well. I agree with you on the basket. I haven't figured out how to make a baskety thing with the open neck. It'd be way better if the bail were on the top, instead of at the back.
What do YOU know? A heckuva lot from what I've read! P.S. I made my first 4-1 chain mail bracelets. I'm addicted! Thanks for having shared the links on tuts for CM.

I'm wondering if you could cheat on that first wrap...like use craft wire as a base and wrap the bail too...I dunno. But I do know that's the reason I shy away from that style...it looks fabulous (great job btw) but it uses too much dang wire. Any opinions on cheaping out on the wire inside?

Oh and I'm loving the little basket...and great idea for hiding an ugly chunk.

i'm not a real fan of wraps in general, but i have to say that first one is really extraordinary. i can see why it takes a lot of wire, but, wowser, sure does look nice. well done!

maybe go with as small a stone as you feel comfortable wrapping so less wire would be used. it's too classy looking to cheat on it! shelby i like them both!

Thanks gang! Herm, I've thought of cheating on the frame wire. I'd have to admit it though if I ever took this to the selling point and I think that would affect people's perception of the quality. I think small components or parts with the wrapping are feasible - like the bails. Doing the majority of the piece tho - maybe only for gifts.
Honestly, this is my first I've done this way and it took 4 hours just to wrap. I suppose I'd get quicker with time. I'm going to do another and make sure I measure out how much wire I use. I didn't keep track this time around. The prongs were actually toughest - took quite a bit to get them to conform to the rock shape.

It took me 3 hours to make this. I don't think it will take that long next time now that I know how it works. But, my fingers hurt after! :-)
