Well this stone was a bugger fromt he beginning. I almost had it wrapped once and a wire broke. So I undid it and re-wrapped it. This stone & wrap was going along so awesomely the 2nd time around. I was tickled to death. When I attempted to tap the back wires gently with my mallet, this happened: Now I'm gonna crawl in a corner and cry!! . Sadly, Tonja

....it's kind of hard to tell from the pic but it looks like a fracture opened up in the lower right hand corner.... is that what happened Tonja? What a heart breaker!! ....beautiful stone and wrap though... I wonder if it could be saved somehow?

I know it sucks, but I bet if the crack were glued, that it would still be an attractive piece overall.

Well, It looks like it followed the wire on the back that I was trying to tuck in. Maybe I could super glue it and move the front wires up to cover the crack? Any suggestions?

That's so gorgeous, I'm really sorry. I can't really tell from the picture but I don't see why trying some super glue would hurt. Seperate it gently with a toothpick so you can get some down inside. Not too much, so it doesn't show all over the stone. Or get some epoxy and use that with a needle. Why were you using a mallet on it anyway? I've never heard of anyone doing that. You're sure doing beautiful work though.

Cher, I was using the mallet because the Moods in Wire book says to use it to tap down the wire so it will lay closer to the stone. I barely tapped it, I swear!! That won't happen again, That's a FACT! I'm going to try gluing it. The worst thing that can happen is it not working and taking everything apart and re-work the stone. That's my other choice, so might as well try.

I think you could get away with using the super glue Tonja. The stone's natural features would probably hide the repair well...

Ok What do ya think?? I put super glue in the crack. There is a small piece that broke out, but I think it's covered good with the wire. This piece I will keep for myself, although I was going to give it as a gift. Lesson Learned!! Tonja (Smiling again)

oh my tonja! it looks like a piece chipped out too. or is that just the way it looks in the picture? if it's actually chipped i'd rework it.....but only after a good cry or some rock hammering.

Yes Kim A small piece did chip out, but after the repair job, it's not very noticeable. I'm going to keep it for myself, so It will be alright. Thanks for looking everyone and helping me through this horrible ordeal!! LOL Live and Learn, Tonja

That's what I'm looking for directions to do! It's beautiful, elegant, natural, even after the crack. The stone is amazing, so glad you saved your piece.

I think you did a fine job. The stuff is tricky like that and using wire to hide problems like that which do occur allot is done often with jewelers i work with.

Great save!!! Way to have a can do attitude. I know how it feels to work on a piece of jewelry and have it break. I was working on a 9 wire square bracelet that was special ordered. Got to the very end and went to form the clasp and "SNAP" 2 wires broke, got so mad I threw the bracelet across the room. After my fit was over I got up and picked it up and tried to salvage it. I was successful and the customer loved it.
