I got back from my wire wrapping class today. I took it with my sister at a local rock club member's studio. The instructor, Dev, I met at the last rock show. I learned a whole lot. She taught us a way completely different from what I was used to. We didn't use tape or do any measuring at all, and it was done in such a way as to keep pliars off the metal as much as possible. It was nice, but I feel the need for some tape. She also suggested I take off the sparp edges of my pliars and polish them, which is a good idea. She was very knowlegeable and helpful.
The best part was that we spent a good portion of out time chatting about stones, cabbing and lots of other lapidary related things. It turns out she got her mostly-complete Genie from the same place I got my mostly-complete Genie from so we talked a lot about that. The rock world is sometimes small. The best part was that she let me pay for the class in cabs! She liked my cabbing and I was glad to give them up for the great class. I also gave some to my sister for her wire-wrapping projects. She had a fun time and picked it up almost instantly!
So now, thanks to Dev, have a new confidence in wire wrapping and some new techniques. I need to be careful, as Jonje said in a different posting, not to lose my style. I think I may incorporate some of what i already do into what I learned. Anyway, here's what I made.

Unknownite with moss agate beads. I know they don't totally go with the stone, but I wanted to practice putting beads on:
This is what my sister made. Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper and some beads:
This is what I did as soon as I got home as not to forget what I learned. It came out a bit weird because the stone didn't exactly fit, but I like it anyway. Laguna agate from Bear Creek:
