Hi -- I received an order from a dealer using the name "thebigo84" with a Toronto address. I bought emerald rough from him and received a sack containing exactly 8 ounces, as advertised; however, it weighed out to 4-1/2 oz. of sand and 3-1/2 ounces of gravel which looks basically like road gravel, salted with a few emerald crystals (very few; haven't thoroughly inspected it yet.) It was overpriced to begin with. I've looked at a fair amount of emerald rough as available on Ebay from several dealers, and while there are differences, those who have advertised emerald "gravel" have sent pieces which clearly show green when wet. Other emerald rough has been chunkier and often has a lot of the black coating on it, but it's obvious what it is. Conclusion: I have 3-1/2 ounces of what seems to be...well...mostly road gravel.
Folks, here's a friendly reminder to READ THE FEEDBACK! I'm ashamed to admit that I have gotten lazy/sloppy with Ebay, I've had great luck and no problems with any other rock dealer I've bought from. I tried several and all the product was what I expected, they've shipped quickly and often corresponded a bit. In this instance, when I posted my feedback I found that there were 3 consecutive negatives directly in front of mine! Better to look before you buy, duh. All the same, except that they described theirs as "dirt" and made it sound like it was hard to extract the stones. Mine was sandy and took about 2 seconds to run through a sifter.

Hi Puppies, thanks for the heads-up. I was thinking about getting some gem rough from the "franksminetours.com" site. Someone had mentioned it on this board before. They seem very reasonable. Have you ever delt with them? If not, check out their site. They were running a mixed 20lb deal for $99.00 or you can buy all ruby and saphire or emerald by the lb for a little more. Anyway, it seems like a cool site to get gem rough. Later, Don

What an a#% hole. That prick knew full well his was ripping people off to make a dollor. People like that make all ebay members look bad. He should have his account terminated for fraud.

I had a problem with the same dude once before...but it was buying some pre-faceted stuff. I'm partnered up with one of the Silver-Platinum dealers on there, and I'm going to get his account revoked...I thought he had just screwed me over...guess people just love to screw others over for a living...

My partner has contacted e-bay and they have put a probation onto his account...meaning if he receives 1 more negative feedback his account is revoked permanently. Just thought you all would like to know.

Thank you for all the replies. Noah, I really appreciate this information. I haven't studied Ebay in detail and I don't know the procedures to make a fraud complaint. Does Ebay policy include any repayment to the defrauded?
Donwrob, I've bought from Frank's several times during my admittedly brief adventure in rock tumbling (that would be about 3 weeks). I've had good luck with them; they ship like lightning and appeared to be sending what I expected. Bear in mind that I'm so inexperienced that you could pass off almost anything to me as rough. (BTW, that tells you just how BAD this dealer was.)

Well that is good to get this E Bay user off. E Bay is a great place to get all kinds of things and it is Asham that there is some People that half to take Advantage.
Good going Noah
