do you start out with when making wraps? I started with two seperate pieces with the first one I tried and was wondering if that's normal or what? Thanks! Tammy

You can use any number of wires, the more you use the more you have at the end for decorations too - 2-5 is pretty much what I've seen being used - up to 10 on rings...

I use 3 on most of my wraps. When I get the mood to be creative I add more.

I use 3 at the least, 6 at the most. Depends alot on the size of the cab, size of the wire and how creative you want to be with the ends. Good luck!! Tonja

Okay. That helps me to get a better visual on how these are put together. At first I thought that only 1 wire was used.. has anyone tried with using just one? I don't think it could work could it? Thanks! Tammy

I don't think so. You need at least 2 to hold the stone in. Tonja

I most always use three, but sometimes four. Each strand is around 10 inches long to start.

Deedolce makes a spectacular circular wrap that is just one wire (I think). If you look back through her wraps (probably about 3 pages ago?), you should find one.
I mainly use four. I have used two and three, though.

I have used one wire on a piece, I started with a small coil and then I coiled it around the stone and then made a simple bail. Tami

Very true, if you make a cage wrap you only need one wire. I thought you were asking about the traditional kind of wraps. Sorry to have been misleading. Tonja

If you want to know about coils, just look up my wrap, I call it the boat anchor, only 1 wire for that puppy and it was only 6 miles long.

I use 4 (22Ga) if it's larger wire and 5 if it's smaller (24Ga). I also use cabs with thick bezels. Steve

I use two wires on small stones, others get three or four wires. Length depends on the size of the stone, I measure around it then add four or five inches, depending on what I have in mind for it.

I've used anywhere from 1 to 5 but I like the 2 wire wraps the best.
