Okay, a comment in LadyT's last post prompted me to post this question -
What do you do with your wire scraps? I don't want to just throw the little bits away, as it's silver. But there's really no use for them. Some of them I can reuse as bindings, but others...well, I can't think of any way to use 1/8" of wire...
So - what do you do?

Once you get enough wire saved, you can have it melted down and sometimes you can sell it to jewlery stores as they can melt it down and reuse the gold or silver. That's what I have been told anyway. I have a baggy that I put all my scapes in and when it's full, I'll find a place to send it to melt it or go to the jewlery store with it. Gold is gold, it can be melted. The gold or silver can be extracted from the base metal. I saw an ad in the rock n gem magizine also (Ross Metals). Tonja

I was just reading my wire jeweler magazine about this very thing. Yes...save the bits and you can sell them back to some places. They specifcally mentioned Rio Grande who gives you a higher price for it if you take a credit. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I think it's called smelting - I know of one place in Canada that does this - I tossed out some too before realizing that I should keep them all

I save it all, as prices go higher more people/companies will be taking scrap. In Dallas there was a place that would pay 95% of market value for any silver, gold, etc. scrap.

I am keeping mine in an old pill bottle and adventually I am hoping to melt them down my self, and use in a piece of jewelry. Tami
