Hi All,
When I took a wire wrapping class, the instructor gave us each a square of felt and that is what we used for a working surface. I didnt like this as the wire would occasionally snag the felt.
What type of working surface do all of you use? I want to create some sort of portable one for myself as I practice my wire wrapping while sitting on the couch. I have a lap tray but need something non slippery to lay the wire and tools on.
Thanks,
Shannon

I found this great lap tray - has a soft bottom filled with .... pellets.... and it sits under a tray with edges. - I don't normally have a surface, mostly hold them in the air - but the tray helps catch anything that falls
How about that thin foamy stuff - or a sheet of that fun foam?

That's a good idea.........they have thin sheets of foam in the craft section of pretty much any store.........the stuff that's used for scrapbooking.
When I took my class she told me to get in the habit of working the wire on a surface rather than in the air because then your hands are more stable.......instead of flipping it all over the place in the air like I seem to lol. I have a hard time keeping it on the table though. It seems to want to float upwards.
Come to think of it, I remember seeing a tutorial online and the artist was using a piece of leather to put her work on.

I don't really use anything but there are times when I wished that I did. Someday I'll learn.

lol Jonje! I have a 'wrapping date' with a fellow teacher, and we just pull up those tiny plastic chairs to a school table and work away. At home, I work in my sewing corner, and lay everything out on my miniature ironing board and use it for a surface. I can't imagine not working 'in the air'.
Have fun! It can be very addicting...
