It looks like our daughters have caught the wrapping bug from mom! They've been asking me if they can try it too, so last night I gave them the brass wire and told them to pick rocks and have fun with it while I wrapped some cabs. The result: Our son has been asking if he can cut some rocks, too. Guess this is likely to turn into a family addiction! ;D

I would say it does not get any better than that! A family group doing something together is far to rare these days in my opinion.

Way cool! So, the girls are how old? Son is how old? (If he's 16, DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH THE SAW, LOL.) Altho, if it's a WF, apparently you can touch the blade without any blood. That's what they tell me, here. What a great family hobby; who's in charge of the tumblers? And do you all look for rocks together? It's amazing what people bring you, in a small town, when they know you want cool rocks. Enjoy! Karen

I asked my wife not to post these! Now I'll never post one of my creations, EVER! Uhm, those look better than what I can come up with! lol My stepson is only 10 but he's definitely a boy that's always aware of how he could get hurt & will avoid anything dangerous. The girls are 7, 8, & 10. I'm still in charge of all the tumblers & choosing the rocks but whenever a package comes to the door it's always like Christmas here & they each critique each & every one of them with their likes & dislikes. What a wonderful, wonderful experience this has & continues to be! It just keeps getting better & better & with the help, advice & encouragement we get from the new friends that we've made here there really isn't anything I could think of that would bring a bigger smile to my face than all of this! Thanks everyone! I'm proud to be a member here & look forward to a long & enjoyable time spent on this forum. It's only a matter of time before our kids set up their own user names & start making threads of their own! From the bottom of our hearts, we just can not thank you all enough! The Last family.

LASTing memories with the family are very special. I lost my dad when I was 12, but the memories he created with me and my sibs 'rock on'. He was a forest ranger, took us to strange and wonderful places the general public was not allowed. I now have his rock collection, which means a lot to all of us kids. When I asked my sibs if I could take it home, they all had a rock memory to share. One wanted to make sure I did not cut up that certain piece of pet wood that we found in ND; another wondered if the as-yet unidentified chunk of 'cool rock' was still in the collection, and what would it look like if I cut it in half for her? The other brother stopped by and gave me a detailed monologue of which rocks he found with Dad, where they came from, and what they were. Like I said, Dad passed away when I was 12. I am the oldest, at 43; brothers are 41, 40, sis is 38.
LASTing memories.
You folks rock on!

Great family hobby! I like when I see kids having that kind of passions, in that TV/PCgames era.

That is wonderful that your kids are taking an interest in it. With so many parents and kids going the opposite direction you have found something that brings you and your kids together. Tami

My daughter, who was around 11 or 12 at the time, wrapped some flat beads and sea glass with "hooks" on them. We hung them off the side of a clay pot and she sold them for .50 cents each at one of my first craft shows. She got a kick out of it.....they actually sold, too!

As some of you know we are a rockhounding family and it has been a blessing in more ways the we could ever have thought. This is a small list but the kids grades are better, we have all lost Lbs, we talk about all kinds of stuff on trips not just rocks, The kids can tell you about rocks and give very good info on location way they were made, I know they are with good people and makeing good choices on weekends we are out in the sun and fresh air with no TV YAYAY !!! When I see other Mom's and Dads sharing this hobby I know they will have a life time of wonderful things to share with there kids. Thank you for sharing. Steph

Ok, now I'm starting to wonder about something...........Earthdog is pretty anal about some things, you know, OCD, (not to the point he needs meds or anthing) where everything needs to be neat & tidy and everything in it's place, etc. It's starting to look like that's a common trait amongst rockhounds? ? (this is a joke, I repeat, this is a joke.............though I'm still speaking the truth!! LOL)
