Hey all,
Just got my first "real" wire. I only bought enough for a project so I cant mess it up. It came coiled in a little circle. Its dead soft gold filled. How do I straighten the wire without kinking it up ? I am wrapping a cabojohn for my sis for her prom.
Thanks!

get yourself a jewelers cloth or soft rag. Then gently pull the wire through the cloth that should straighten it out enough for you to work with it.

Just don't rub them too too often or else you'll end up with half-hard wire or harder - wire hardens as it's worked & bent or rubbed
Nylon pliers are very good

I've ruined some wire messing with it too much. I need to get some of those nylon pliers. I know someone said the customers don't notice most of the little tool marks, but they drive me crazy!

Hmmmm, thanks, Nancy! DH has more freebie t-shirts than he can possibly wear. Think one or two might have to "disappear." Hehehe

If you are working with sterling...swipe a stick of red rouge on that T-shirt and pull your wire through the rouge spots...then sit back and watch it turn black! (the T-shirt...not the wire...lol)

That's what I do. Sometimes I just start with curved pieces of wire, because you have to bend it around the stone anyway. Steve

I usually keep my wire in the package it came in, find one end and gently pull the end, if it looks like it is about to kink I just reach in the bag and turn the entire coil. If you are using square wire you want to try and avoid twisting it.
