I was asked to do a few wraps for them so I did them all today. Wow talk about sore fingers. ;D Hope you guys like them ok. These are all done with 22 gauge ds gold-filled wire, the binding wire is 22 gauge hh gold-filled. Believe me, it's all full hard by the time I'm done, I spend more time straightening wire than wrapping. ;D The tear drop went pretty easy but had some problems with the other two due to the thickness. Earthdog, you need to cut your pieces thinner. Did you shape the tear drop yourself? It was really nicely done!! Thanks for looking, Cher PS .... For those who do wrapping, do you have a certain thickness of stone you like to work with? I'm just curious cause it would give those cutting an idea how thick to make them. I like to cut mine so they are about 1/8 to 3/16th's of an inch thick. What about cabbers? How thick do you like them for cabbing?

I cut and shaped them all. I did a boat load of those tear drops, I was calling them guitar picks. I did alot of Brazillian agate ones that turned out nice and thin. I sent a few to some friends that play guitar. Here is a link to one of the guys I sent them to and he recorded himself playing with them, you can see the ones I sent him, then go down and hit the link that says "picks" and you can hear him picking with them. www.newtcity.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=11992.msg195711#msg195711Or click this. winterholerct.net/music/picks.mp3

Hey those are really awesome! Especially those first three, the middle orange one is totally awesome. I'm going to have to try and do a couple for my son.

Awesome wraps. I like the first one especially with its drop shape. That Brecciated one is great. For stone thickness, I personally like about 1/8 inch of bezel or slightly more. It's a lot easier to acheive that by cabbing. You can put whatever bezel you want on them that way. The size of the bezel depends on how much wire you want to use. Steve

Cher you did a beautiful job as did EDog on the rocks themselves.
I'm not sure it's the thickness of the rock itself that may be harder to wrap but the bevel of the edge (or maybe that's just me) - i've tried to chainmaille wrap some stones and it works best on a stone with a thinner edge, no matter the thickness of the rest of the stone. You did a fantastic job on them all and the shine is amazing as are the stones - All of you ROCK!

Very pretty cabs...really nice round wire wraps to! Supposidly the thicker the cab, the more wire. I like the thinner edges as long as the stone can handle it. The more wire you have to use...the more ya gotta stress out on what to do with them when all is said and done. uh oh...I don't know if I helped one dang bit. sigh...

Great wraps; I think most slabs are cut 1/4 inch. I have seen some transparent plume agates cut 1/8 and a few others. I kinda figured it was because it was nice material and could handle being that thin, but that was just a guess. I was taught that it was how thin the bottom edge was that was important. The thicker the slab the higher the domb. Someone like stoner or one of the other more expert cabbers (like stoner) could give a better explaination.

Wow! Like them all but the last one, the Rivera Plume is awesome! I prefer to cab from 3/16th slabs myself but I know most folks want 1/4 and if you sell on E-Bay, 1/4" slabs are better...mel

We cut our cabs various thicknesses but try to have bezel height about 1/8 in. this makes for easier wrapping as there are less wires to deal with. Having 6 to 8 wires to cover bezel height sometimes makes for a finished product that resembles a pair of Octpus during the breeding season. Some people can pull it off but the wife and I really struggle with thick sided cabs.

Very nice wraps Cher. Now keep going, you gotta build up some calouses on those fingers! I like cutting low domed cabs but my bezels are usually around 1/8" regardless of the overall height of the cab. When I cut plume agates, I cut thin slabs so the plumes can be singled out against the clear agate. What did you think of the last couple of cabs of mine you wrapped?

Ed, the best memory that comes to mind is the hot pink rhodocrosite (sp) and that was a perfect size on the edges for wrapping. I remember a couple of early freeforms I did of yours that were buggers but they weren't cabs, just very cool shapes.
(pics of those can be seen on Ed's Stones In Motion website)
