Hi All! Up till now I have been practicing my wraps using craft wire. I finally got brave and purchased some sterling silver wire for my mom-in-laws mom's day present. I also did the cabbing. This is a Regency Rose plume agate cab from some slabs I got from Shain. The wrap was done using 22g ss ds sq wire and 21g ss hh hr for the wraps. Did I get those abbreviations right? I was suprised to find that this wire was much easier to work with than the craft wire.......I suppose because I used square and half round wire which stacks so neatly and tightly together. Anyway, here it is: Thanks for looking! Shannon

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah another one graduates to the good wire! I think practicing with the craft wire may deter some wrappers - this square stuff is so much easier to work with - too bad there isn't some square craft wire - that would really get people wrapping.
You did a fabulous job - both on the cab and the wrap - but you forgot something.....*the back* hehe

Tweetie,
I may be a newer member but the one thing I've learned is that Tweet WANTS TO SEE THE BACKS!!! Unfortunately, I didnt remember that till after I had given the wrap to my mom-in-law. I will remember to take pics of the backs from now on.
Next project, a long thin oval of red tiger eye wrapped in gold filled. Still have to cab the tiger eye though so it will be a little while.
And I think you are right, craft wire does deter some. I think they do make square craft wire, there was a photo posted somewhere on here of a square copper wrap I believe.

Great job! Now the important question - did your mom like it?
Craft wire just doesn't bend as nicely as the real stuff. I remember my first "real" wrap - I was so surprised at how nicely real wire behaved! And then I graduated from my "real" wire being Hobby Lobby stuff to real wire (ordered that time from a metalsmith). WOW! The differences!
I think I'd encourage everyone to start with at least copper. It behaves more like a "real" metal instead of the craft wire.

Ohhh yes, mom-in-law loved it! I included a small piece of the rough slab in the bottom of the jewelry box so that she would be even more impressed with the transformation. The only problem was when other family members saw it they started the "me next! me next! I want a pendant!" thing so now I have a few projects lined up.

GREAT JOB! Yep....silver wire is easier to use...you can get square and half-round in copper at brandywinejewelrysupplies.com. I use copper to work out new patterns. Also, it sells! I like copper myself.

Awesome Shannon! It doesn't get any better than that, making the cab yourself then wrapping it. No doubt, she's going to love it!
