I won't show the top! I call it blood, sweat and jeers ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D john The peer pressure was too much, here is the lousy top! Although my wife liked it and wore it today! Makes it okay in my book.

WOW! Even without its "top", it's spectacular! And it's your first?!?!? WOW! You are good!!! The cab and the wrap complement each other beautifully.
Thanks for sharing. Now I expect to see many more where that one came from!

That's really good, I like the way you evenly made the wire go out like that, kinda looks like a star pattern. Wasn't that fun? Now you have to make more...

Yeah, are you sure that's the first one?? Pretty darn good if it is ... keep it up, you can only get better.

Yep, now we have to see the top. The rest was great! Outstanding first wrap. Now, the top please? Tonja

The top is twisted into a bail and looks baaaaaaaad! Any hint on how to do the top. I had six wires and no where to go!!
Thanks for all the encouragement !! I can take constructive criticism too.
I can see how square wire would stay in line better as you are wrapping. I will get it next order. May even bet a little bigger may go to 20g instead of the 22 I used above. What say you? john

I base my wire on the size of the pendant. If that's 22g, then that pendant must be big. I'd definitely go larger (in the future) on pendants that size. And we can't give you advice on the top if we don't see it.

I am pretty sure that the consensus here is:
1) Great job on a first attempt.
2) SHOW US THE TOP!!!
I could be wrong, but that's my take.

Well I'm no help! I can't wrap so I can't say what might have gone off kilter on the bail. It looks like...um...maybe it didn't know what to do with itself. (Only someone who knows me very, very well could make sense of that.) However, I have to agree with your wife. If the first wrap that Bob does for me looks like yours, John, I will definitely wear it with love and pride!

I just got frustrated and cut the wires too short so I was stuck. I twisted them all and tried to make a bail. I know to just walk away but sometimes don't listen to my own advise. My main problem was I had all six wires up there and no way to hold them all, I was thinking if i slipped a jump ring down it would help? and I could open it up and take it off. What do you guys do??? john john

I like the twisted bail look, but I never would have thought of the jump ring! I normally leave enough binding wire heading up the wrap to wrap around at least twice (if not 3 or 4 times) around the pieces in back. Then, because I do curlies and cues and swoops and stuff ( ) I have the leftover wire from the actual bail (be it 2, 3, or 4 wires) coming down the backside of the stone, then I have the wires that didn't go into the bail bent in front of the binding wire. I think Kim did a picture of it once on one of her wraps. I'll have to dig through the older posts to see if I can find it for you.

I like the bail. It needed to be a little bigger if you want to use the wrap on a variety of chains. If you have a chain that will go through the bail and it's secure enough not to fall off, I'd keep it like it is and wear it. I honestly think it fits the wrap prefectly. You really did a great job on that wrap. Congrats!! Tonja

you need some clamps or tape to hold them together at the top. and even with those sometimes i call family members over to hold on to something.
