I started thinking about this when Jeremy was having a run of bad mojo. A challenge of sorts... Does anyone out there like Art Nouveau? I love it, and I think with the right stone...the right wrapper & the proper additions, it could branch off into a whole new wrapping area. first...I picked this cab of silverhawks because of the shape lending itself to an art nouveau style. www.samsilverhawk.com/gems1.htmlok...got that pic in your mind? Now...imagine a wrap that basically would add to the triangle shape. Maybe little flares or loops that come out from each side and one loop from the bottom. These little loops would allow a dangly thing to be added like a pearl or little gemstone. www.senses-artnouveau.com/product.php?item_code=02058&browse=Yes&collection=anb7see the overall shape on these earrings? Now imagine a cab set in the middle and little pearls wired onto the loops to give motion to the piece. Ohhhhhh....I found another shape. Can anyone see a cab set into wire that was shaped like this? www.senses-artnouveau.com/product.php?item_code=02060&browse=Yes&collection=anb7Am I crazy for thinking this would work?

i am a HUGE fan of Art Nouveau and Deco, i think you are really on to something here, Liz. unfortunately, i can't wrap a stone to save my life.....but i may try to cab something similar in shape.
Aubrey Beardsley is one of my fav artists. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey_Beardsley) and i truly have loved that style for a long time.
if i come up with a good shape, i'll send it along to a wrapper who feels up to the challenge!

This is kinda funny. I did a sketch last night for Joi of an idea I had. A cab wrapped inside a spider web. This could really be interesting. I would love to give this a whirl.

I been thinkin about this ever since I saw your post Jeremy. Sometimes...fate intercedes on our behalf! It doesn't even have to be an odd shaped cab. (I just thought that shape reminded me of other A. N. things I've seen before.) But...I DO think the stone should reflect that style....say...a moonstone would be much more art nouveau than a unakite cab. (see my thinking?) Naturalistic, smooth & beautiful is what I see. KD...I'm with you on wrapping but I haven't tried it yet. I'm kinda chicken!!! Jeremy...if you get a chance...can I see your drawings?

I've always loved Art Nouveau and Deco, in all forms (jewelry, decorating). The lead sleds (automobiles) from that time period are cool, too!

Looks interesting, but not as sure what it is. Do you mean a triangle wrap with the abilities to hang something from the bottom? Or a triangle sculpture with same abilities? Sorry to be so silly, but I really never heard of Art Nouveau. Tonja

Tonja...yeah! Kinda exactly what you explained in both. It is a style that was popular in the late 18oo's to about 1915. It tended to have alot of things from nature and was very fluid in it's motion. (plants, animals, insects just to name a few) It was used in everything from jewelry to furniture to architecture to fashion. Go do a search...you'll fall in love with a style new to you!
I don't really know the difference between wire wrapping & wire sculpting yet...so that part I can't comment on.

Sorry to be so silly, but I really never heard of Art Nouveau. Tonja I have heard of it but never really knew exactly what it referred to. Guess I just never paid much attention. It's a very interesting idea though, I'm going to look at all the links here to see what I can learn.

Jeremy...good stab for a first try! The movement on the dangles is good!
Tonja...The wrap itself is wonderful! I see where ya were goin with the pearlized drops.
