Wow, it's scary in here. OK, here's my very first wrap. I used Wal Mart 20 gauge round wire and a pair of needle nose pliers. You ladies be gentle, this is my first time. Back There are obvious flaws, but constructive criticism is always welcome. Curt

The experts will probably guide you re: the wire used. I'm going to stick to critiquing the design.
I like the turns and curls of the wire very much. The rounded curls at the top make for an eye-catching look that opposes the length of the cab and I really like that contrast.
I also really like the wraps on the sides ad the bottom and your bail looks very strong but still graceful, especially when viewed from the front.
If I were ordering this style from you I would ask you to do the wrap in either copper of gold-tone wire. I think one of those would snap the red, gold, and green in the cab much more than the silver wires can.
Overall, I really like this design. Are you sure this is your first?!!!!

I have to say that is awesome for a first wrap - once you get into the half round for the bindings, you'll see they lay a lot flatter
Looks like all your ends are tucked in - but I have to say you get maximum points for showing the back!
Try using your fingers for soft bends (you'll hate me for saying that in the beginning as you get sore fingers, but you might thank me later) because they don,t leave marks like the pliers do - pliers are good for curls, tight turns & holding the bindings
Great work!

Welcome to the wrappers Curt! Wrapping catches you slowly but surely an it hits you when you expect less! At least that's my case! Awesome job on your first rap. Hammer a little the binding wire to make it flat ore use half round and you'll be a pro very soon! I'm looking for a little piece of wrapped black druzy!

That's a great first try. As you do more of them you'll find the wraps work way better with half round than round wire and what tweet says about using your fingers is really good advice. Alternately, wrap the tips of your pliers with masking tape to keep them from marking the metal. I really like the style. Have you tried putting a chain through the bale? It looks small to me, but it just might be the angle. Good first try. I would never show show mine!

Thanks Kate! Very nice critique. And yes, that's my very first one. :-)
Thank you John. Ummmmmmm, a natural what? :-)
Sorry Jonje, I just couldn't bring my self to tell the guys to be gentle with me. :-)
Thanks jjckitti!
Thanks Adrian. See my next thread for black druze. :-)
Thank you for the pointers and compliments Tweety!
Thanks Herm! Must be the pic, because the bail is big enough for several chains.

That's a darn good start for a first one Curt, I cringe when I think of my first one. ;D Keep practicing with it, that's the only way ... and get some different tools. Something with smooth jaws. I found mine at www.widgetsupply.com and they were very very reasonable.

I really like the wrap Woodie, being a first attempt it is all the nicer! The stone is really lovely, got a great shine on that one. I was lucky enough to spend some time in Africa, and the round wire reminds me of the amazing wire work I saw the locals making over there. I kinda like the rustic beauty, and the tight winds along the side, contrast in a great way with the "grip" wraps across the stone. I also like the long wraps across the stone, as they frame the work and allow us to see more of the stones shape. Thanks for sharing the pictures, can't wait to see more!

I've not tried wire wrapping yet - but I can only hope my first one comes out as nice as your first! I agree with the suggestion by LadyB - I prefer silver myself but I'd bet the gold or copper would really compliment that stone in particular. Keep'em coming!
