I knew there had to be a better way than this waiting around week after week for stones to tumble. At 5 PM Friday all of the goodies I needed to get my grinder up and running properly finally came in and by 2AM I had all of these and a few more pretty much done! I know there are a few things less than perfect about them, give me a couple more weeks and I should get this stuff dialed in

Wow, you took to cab making fast. Those look amazing, especially those obsidian looking dudes near the upper left hand side. I like that ruby n ziosite. Did you have problems with the differences in hardness of the ruby and it's host rock? I have been wary of that stuff for that reason. Those pretty looking red ones look like that hamburger ranch breccaited jasper you so well named. Can't wait to see the next batch and glad you are up and running! Steve

The zoisite does go away really fast, they were junk coming out of stage 2 in the tumbler, and even on the grinder the ruby pieces are hard enough to prevent a smooth dome- although I expect with all hard wheels or a real flat lap one might have a better chance. Next time I'm going to try aand "flat spot" the rubies in hopes they will smooth out as the zoisite cuts down around them- and really go lightly all the way with diamonds- that one was messed up by trying to run the cerium polish on the felt wheel after getting a decent finish with 30000 diamond. Here's a closer shot of the obsidian- this is the purple and green sheen stuff that came with my grinder- sitting on a piece of the rough they were cut from

WoW awesome for just starting out, those are really nice. That chunk of stuff they are sitting on sure doesn't look like obsidian ... amazing.

Nice job- I can't get Obsidian to shine for nothing- I have reworked the same cab of Snowflake 3 times now- Going back to 220 one more time- if that does not work- well the tumbling pile is growing all the time!

I struggled with them a bit myself- found that diamond belts just are too aggresive even at the very fine grades, these were put back in the tumbler and run for the last 3 days of a week long 220 batch, then spent a week in AO pre-polish from whence they went straight to the felt wheel with cerium, and they came out looking like glass (which shouldn't be a surprise- since I guess that's what they are).
I'm thinking of buying a few sets of SiC belts for doing obsidian and softer stones on the grinder.
