Thanks Joe... I think I'm going to try a different design next....the narrow angled parts don't get polished at all so....I'll probably straighten the sides and keep the little pointed tips for style....

All I can say is wow! How long does it take to go from a rough stone into a beautiful masterpiece like the cross? My eyes popped out!!

I like those concave shapes ALOT. You defenetly know how to use that saw to it's fullest capoability. Great job. I also like the cross. Steve

Thanks Y'all! The cross is classic isn't it? Celtic like me Doesn't take too long I guess....I try to knock one out during every cutting session....I think I'm getting better with practice....the one in the pic above is probably my best one yet... I'll make plenty more I'm sure.... Jack - thank you for the compliment Sir....as i've told you before, your crosses are pretty neat as well!! BTW - If anyone is thinking of trying this type of shaping using a tile saw...Please don't use a slotted blade or one with a thin kerf....I think that it would be dangerous!!! The blade I use has a solid continuous edge and a thick kerf....also...shaping will definitely dish your blade so use one that's already dished! Thanks again, Dan ;D

Wow very cool Dan, what kind of blade do you have on your saw?

Cher - I just bought one of the 7" blades they sell at Home Depot....replcement for the workforce...not the Hot Dog but the cheaper one ....$20.00 i think. The Hot Dog is good for slabbing but if you try to trim or shape with it, it will dish the blade badly and there is a chance that the blade could fly apart!!! So I don't recommend the Hot Dog for trimming....

What do you mean the blade will dish badly?

The cross is awesome! I gotta stop coming into this section. I can't afford to start cabbing, too. LOL!

Cher - When I trim the slabs into shapes i use the side of the blade to 'grind' the shape. Since i'm pretty much using only one the right side it causes the blade to 'dish' or become shaped like a bowl...not flat....I should probably add that term to the glossary section.... AgateChaser - I'm like you and can't really afford a nice cabber yet...various expenses last year.....several trips between Houston and NewYork have left the budget pretty tight....however....(the good part) thanks to the good folks here I was introduced to the WorkForce tile saw for the affordable price of 80 dollars or so. With a little practice I think that anyone can produce some nice free forms for tumbling.... Dan

Dan So if one learned to work on both sides of the blade when doing that instead of one side all the time it wouldn't dish?

Cher - hmmmm...good question. I think the blade would still get dished but I'm not certain. I think I'm pretty hard on blades...I managed to dish another one just cutting slabs! I think that I'm using to much pressure when making the initial cut into the rock....need to just bump the rock with the blade to get the cut started.
As for trimming.... I would still say go ahead and use a different blade for that...
Dan
