My Pixie finally got here this week and I got it set up last night. Have been on it all day today and below is what I've finished so far(have about 5 others in progress). Top left is Arizona pet wood I got from Shain, the rest are from a very generous gift I received from Robert (Rockds) (details in the "General Rocks Board") . The banded agate is about the size of a quarter. Now - lessons learned: 1. If you put a sharp edge on an agate do not take it back to the 80 grit wheel to take down - it will chip. 100 or higher is better. 2. Watch your hands. I'd be concentrating getting into a difficult spot, not watching both hands, when "WAP!" I'd loose a piece of skin on the adjoining wheel. The wheels being so close together is the only thing I don't like about the unit. 3. I love diamond wheels! They are much quicker then carbide and quieter too. 4. Thick cabs with deep bevels are hard to do. Had more trouble getting the edges scratch free and polished then anything else. 5. Pencils can be used as dop sticks. My husband got a look a what I was using and went out an bought 3 different dowel sizes and cut them up for me. I have a very nice husband. 6. And finally, do not put a drink down anywhere near the spray radius of your machine. Grit does not taste good and it is not good for you (one of those "Senior Moments" ) Sandy

Congrats Sandy on the new machine and welcome to the world of cabbing. You're off to a good start and you'll learn alot just by trying new things. Practice, practice.......One thing to keep in mind so you don't wear out the wheels prematurely is to use the wheels for what they are made for. In other words, use the 80g wheel to do the major shaping, not the 220. When I first started, I found myself using the finer wheels just because I didn't want to have to spend the time getting rid of the heavy scratches from the 80g wheel. Well, it takes 3 times as long and wears out the wheel faster. Have fun with the new machine and I look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks all for your encourgement and advice! Spent most of Sunday on the machine again. I didn't realize just how addictive this could be. I wonder if they'd object to me moving it into the office? ;D

Sandy,Welcome to the Club, the Pixie was the first Diamond Pacific machine that I bought but the Wheels are not that close as you say ~ the next step up is the Genie those wheels are closer that the Pixie and after some use with the machine read the book that came with it make sure you oil the motor-on your Polishing Wheel ~ which wheel came with the machine~ when I bought mine the brown 8,000 came with it~ then I bought the~white 14,000 & then the blue 50,000 polishing wheels~The only wheels that I use a lot are the ~280 & the 600-but enjoy it it's a cool little machine.
