Howdy folks, Mentioned another weird form of jasper we call picture jasper because of the snowy ground and red bushes. Red-purple sky is all shot through with cube shaped pyrite crystals and all the little veins and streaks are pyrite filled too looking a bit like a lightning shot sky. Kinda neat material anyway and I like the sparkle that the included pyrite gives the cabs. Cabs are 30 x 40's.Thanks for lookin...mel

Mel, you mentioned pyrite... does that give you any special problems? My favorite dark green local jasper sometimes has a lot of it included, so I've wondered if there's anything to watch for in working it.
PS- those ARE beautiful.

Great cabs Mel. I do believe that this is the first time that you have posted pics of rock without a very specific name! "Kinda sorta picture Jasper" ? That's the kind of thing I would say.

Stefan: Yup. Self collected from an area neat the poppy jasper deposits.
Joe: Got lots of wierd mateirlas I have no name for . Just keep finding more stuff than I can name!
Rockhard: The pyrite included jaspers seem to work up pretty well if I use optical grade tin oxide for the final polish on cabs and rockshed aluminum oxide as final polish in the tumbler. Some pyrite will eventually rust from the salt on your hands though. The locals here say the more rust free pieces are due to a high gold content in the pyrite but I've seen rusty pyrite and non-rusting in the same stone so i don't know about that. I just hit it again with the poilsh if it gets too tarnished....mel
